TNS Beaconhouse vs LGS: IB and Cambridge Pathways, Fees and Learning Style

TNS Beaconhouse has two Lahore campuses that teach the IB from Class 6, and its DHA campus also offers an American High School Diploma. LGS is mainly a Cambridge and Matric school; the IB's own directory lists four LGS campuses, all in Lahore. We checked each campus against that directory and Pakistan's equivalence rules so you can compare the routes, not the reputations.

Short answer

TNS Beaconhouse is a two-campus Lahore school built around the International Baccalaureate: project-based early years, the IB Middle Years Programme in Classes 6 to 10, then the IB Diploma or an American High School Diploma at its DHA campus. LGS mostly teaches Cambridge O and A Level and Matric, and offers the IB only at the four campuses the IB's directory lists, all in Lahore (as of 12 October 2026).

How we researched this: On 12 October 2026 we read every page on tns.edu.pk, the International Baccalaureate's Find an IB World School directory for Pakistan and the individual entries for both TNS campuses and four LGS campuses, pages from lgsinternational.edu.pk, lgsdefence.edu.pk, lgs.edu.pk, lahoregrammar.school and sb.lgsjt.edu.pk, the equivalence pages of the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC), Islamabad's ICT-PEIRA fee register and Beaconhouse's campus finder. A script counted SchoolNama listings under both names. Neither school is ranked, and SchoolNama's demo fee entries and seeded reviews were left out.

Parents often set TNS Beaconhouse against Lahore Grammar School as if they were two versions of the same thing. They are not. TNS Beaconhouse is a two-campus Lahore school whose Board of Governors is chaired by Beaconhouse's chief executive and also includes the group's chief operating officer; its website says it was set up in Gulberg in 2007 after an education conference hosted by the Beaconhouse Group. LGS, by contrast, is a multi-city network whose published programmes are mainly Cambridge O and A Level and Matric, with the IB taught at only a few campuses. So the real choice is usually between an IB pathway and a Cambridge pathway, and only then between particular campuses.

Start with where each one actually exists. TNS's website lists two campuses, both in Lahore: TNS Beaconhouse Gulberg at 23-E/II Hali Road, Gulberg III, and TNS Beaconhouse Defence at 483/3 Sector G, Phase V, DHA. Beaconhouse's own campus finder, read on 12 October 2026, also shows exactly two TNS entries, both in Lahore. LGS is far more spread out. The site for LGS 55 Main says the school has branches in Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Gujrat as well as Lahore. For a family outside Lahore, then, TNS is not a local option at all, while an LGS branch may be.

The TNS route is IB from the middle years onwards. According to its academics page, younger children learn through the Reggio Emilia approach and project-based learning; TNS says it was the first school in Pakistan to introduce Reggio Emilia, a claim we have not checked independently. In Classes 6 to 10 both campuses teach the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). The Gulberg campus stops there, and its page says students then transfer to TNS DHA for Classes 11 and 12. DHA offers the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the American High School Diploma, and TNS says students who meet the academic and credit requirements can leave with both. Neither TNS campus is listed by the IB for the Primary Years Programme (PYP), and we found no O Level or A Level track on any of the eight pages TNS's site publishes.

The IB's own directory confirms the TNS picture. Its entry for TNS Beaconhouse (school code 006327), whose coordinators are based at the Phase V DHA address, shows MYP authorisation from 24 February 2012 and DP authorisation from 5 May 2014. The separate entry for TNS Beaconhouse - Gulberg (code 060845) shows MYP only, authorised on 15 March 2021. The IB notes that its school pages are filled automatically from its information system and that coordinators can correct them, so ask the school if anything you are told differs.

LGS's main route is Cambridge. On its own site, 55 Main (a girls' branch) describes a Cambridge affiliation covering both O and A Level, with O Level papers taken when pupils finish year 11 and A Level classes running there since 1995. The lahoregrammar.school site says the institution offers Matriculation as well as O and A Level programmes for both boys and girls. The Johar Town cluster's senior boys' site lists an IGCSE track for Classes 9 to 11 at JT International Senior, and separate senior schools for girls and boys running from Class 9 to A2. LGS Defence's admissions page for 2026-27 lists all-girls and all-boys O Level programmes, a co-educational A Level programme at Phase 5, and, for LGS Islamabad, co-educational O and A Level programmes.

The IB at LGS is real but confined to a few sites. The IB directory lists four LGS schools in Pakistan, all in Lahore. Lahore Grammar School International in DHA Phase 8 is authorised for all three main programmes: MYP from 6 December 2016, PYP from 17 January 2017 and DP from 28 March 2017. LGS Defence Phase V has the DP, authorised on 29 December 2022 and listed as co-educational, plus the PYP from 8 March 2017, which the directory lists for boys. LGS Defence Phase 1 is listed for the PYP only (girls). LGS Johar Town International Senior has the DP, authorised on 15 March 2023. Only one of these, LGS International, appears in the directory as authorised for the MYP. So if your child starts in the PYP at either Defence campus, ask what the curriculum will be from Class 6 and at which campus the Diploma or A Level would follow.

Islamabad is a special case. Islamabad's private-school regulator, ICT-PEIRA, carries an entry spelt 'Lahore Grammar School (International Baccalaurete Campus)' in sector H-8/1; it is recorded as a primary institution, and its fee filing runs only from playgroup up to Grade V. It does not appear among the 32 Pakistani schools in the IB's directory that we read on 12 October 2026. That does not tell you what the campus teaches day to day, but it does mean you should ask the campus directly which IB status, if any, it holds before relying on the name.

Teaching style is where the comparison gets interesting, though both schools describe themselves in their own words and neither is independently measured here. TNS frames its whole school around inquiry: children are expected to steer projects, MYP assessment is criterion-based, and the Gulberg campus says it is organised into age-based 'villages' around a central piazza. TNS Gulberg lists a Community Project in MYP Year 3 and a Personal Project in Year 5 among the programme's signature pieces. Cambridge classes at LGS work towards external O and A Level papers graded by Cambridge, and the 55 Main site describes a mix of collaborative learning, critical thinking and a wide co-curricular programme. In the DP at either school, students take six subjects plus Theory of Knowledge, an Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service; LGS International says each student takes three or four subjects at higher level.

Recognition at home depends on the IBCC, which issues equivalence certificates for foreign qualifications. Its IB page grants the MYP equivalence to SSC in the relevant group only when at least five academic subjects, English and Mathematics among them, are externally evaluated by the IB, and candidates sitting in Pakistan need eight subjects, including Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies. It treats the full IB Diploma as equivalent to HSSC in the relevant group, but does not consider the IB certificate equivalent to HSSC. For Pre-Medical equivalence it requires English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and one other best subject, each at grade 3 or above. Pakistani students taking MYP or DP exams in Pakistan must also pass Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies at MYP, O Level or SSC level, although Integrated Humanities at MYP is accepted in place of Pakistan Studies. On the Cambridge side, the IBCC requires eight O Level subjects from candidates who sit in Pakistan, including English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies, plus three A Level subjects at grade E or above in the group you need. The IBCC also publishes a conversion formula that turns IB grades into Pakistani marks.

The American High School Diploma at TNS DHA brings its own rules. The IBCC says the diploma must come from an accredited institution and that students completing it at an American-system school in Pakistan must pass Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies at O Level or SSC level, and two College Board Advanced Placement courses, along with the other subject requirements. TNS says it is accredited by MSA-CESS and is a College Board centre. If your child might aim for a Pakistani medical or engineering college, check the subject list with the IBCC and the admitting body before the child chooses Grade 11 subjects, at either school.

Fees are the hardest part to compare honestly. TNS publishes no fee schedule on tns.edu.pk; its admissions page is an inquiry form, so the fee for either campus is unavailable until a campus quotes it. LGS has no single fee list either, because campuses publish separately. On 12 October 2026 the LGS International site was still displaying the table it labels 2025-26. Its 'Per Month Fee' line starts at 58,810 (playgroup to KG), reaches 66,650 for Grades 6 to 8 and tops out at 84,945 for DP2; on joining, families also see 100,000 for admission, 85,000 marked 'Security (Refundable)' and 15,000 for registration, or 20,000 at DP level. The table states no currency, and it is last session's schedule, so ask for the 2026-27 one. In Islamabad, the IB-named LGS campus filed 57,422 for Grades I to V for 2026-27 with ICT-PEIRA, up from 52,202 in 2025-26, an increase of 10.0%, plus an admission fee of 50,000 and registration of 3,500. No billing period is given beside those figures, and the regulator's disclaimer puts responsibility for accuracy on the filing school. None of these figures says anything about quality.

SchoolNama's own directory reflects how different the two are in reach. A script that matched TNS, T.N.S and The New School found three TNS listings, all in Lahore, one of them a duplicate of the Defence campus. The same script found 19 entries carrying the Lahore Grammar School or LGS name, with Lahore holding nine, Islamabad four, Karachi and Faisalabad two apiece, and Multan and Gujranwala one apiece. For the IB campuses discussed here, see /schools/beaconhouse-tns-defence-lahore, /schools/beaconhouse-tns-gulberg-lahore, /schools/lgs-international-lahore and /schools/lahore-grammar-school-phase-v-lahore; the /lahore page lists the city's other schools. SchoolNama had no pick-and-drop providers listed for Lahore when checked on 12 October 2026, so budget the school run separately. Our wider comparisons at /news/ib-vs-cambridge-pakistan and /news/lgs-vs-beaconhouse cover the programme choice and the Beaconhouse network, and /compare lets you set two shortlisted campuses side by side.

Neither school is the better choice in general. The useful question is which route suits your child and your city. If you are in Lahore and want an all-IB journey with project work from the start and the option of an American diploma, TNS is built for that. If you want Cambridge or Matric, a branch outside Lahore, or the flexibility to choose IB or A Level later within one name, LGS has more doors, though each LGS campus has to be checked on its own.

Checklist before you decide

  • ✓Decide the exit qualification first: IB Diploma, American High School Diploma, Cambridge A Level or FSc/FA. Then shortlist only campuses that teach it through Class 12.
  • ✓Look up each shortlisted campus in the IB's Find an IB World School directory and note which programmes it is authorised for; a school name or brochure is not proof.
  • ✓At TNS Gulberg, ask how the move to TNS DHA for Classes 11 and 12 works and whether a place there is assured.
  • ✓At an LGS campus with the PYP, ask what your child will study from Class 6 and at which campus the Diploma or A Level would follow.
  • ✓Thinking of MBBS or engineering in Pakistan later? Match your child's planned subjects against the IBCC group rules for the IB or for O/A Level before Grade 9 choices are locked, Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies included.
  • ✓For the American diploma route, ask TNS how it meets the IBCC's two Advanced Placement course requirement.
  • ✓Get the 2026-27 charges from each campus on paper, and ask how often you will be billed and which deposits come back.
  • ✓Ask about class sizes in the Diploma or A Level year and which subjects actually ran in 2026-27, not just which are offered.
  • ✓Visit both campuses, sit in on a lesson if allowed, and compare the finalists on /compare.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between TNS Beaconhouse and LGS?

TNS has two campuses in Lahore: Reggio Emilia-inspired, project-based early years, the IB MYP from Class 6, and at its DHA campus the IB Diploma alongside an American High School Diploma. LGS is mainly a Cambridge O/A Level and Matric network across several cities, with the IB at four Lahore campuses listed in the IB's directory.

Does LGS offer the IB at all?

Yes, at some campuses. The IB directory, read on 12 October 2026, lists Lahore Grammar School International (PYP, MYP and DP), LGS Defence Phase V (PYP and DP), LGS Defence Phase 1 (PYP) and LGS Johar Town International Senior (DP), all in Lahore. Most other LGS campuses teach Cambridge or Matric.

Can my child do O Levels or A Levels at TNS?

We found no O Level or A Level programme on TNS's website when checked on 12 October 2026. Its senior options are the IB Diploma and the American High School Diploma, both at the DHA campus. If you want Cambridge exams, ask TNS directly, or look at Cambridge schools instead.

Will an IB Diploma from TNS or LGS count for university admission in Pakistan?

The IBCC says it treats the full IB Diploma as equivalent to HSSC in the relevant group, but says it does not consider the IB certificate equivalent to HSSC. Students sitting in Pakistan must also have Urdu, Islamiyat and Pakistan Studies at MYP, O Level or SSC level, and each group needs specific subjects at grade 3 or above. Check with the university you are targeting too.

How much do TNS and LGS charge?

TNS does not publish fees on its website, so ask the campus. LGS fees differ by campus. LGS International's website showed its 2025-26 table on 12 October 2026 (58,810 a month for playgroup to KG, rising to 84,945 in the second Diploma year), and the IB-named LGS campus in Islamabad filed 57,422 for Grades I to V for 2026-27 with ICT-PEIRA, with no period stated. Ask for each campus's 2026-27 schedule in writing.

Is there a TNS or LGS IB campus outside Lahore?

TNS has campuses only in Lahore. All four LGS schools in the IB directory are in Lahore. An LGS campus in Islamabad is registered with ICT-PEIRA under an International Baccalaureate name at primary level, but it was not in the IB directory when we checked, so ask it about its status.
