Schools With Pick & Drop in Lahore: Comparing Routes, Cost and Safety

Court orders since 2024 have told Lahore schools to put children on buses, yet on 15 October 2026 only one of nine Lahore school websites we read put a price on transport. This guide sets out what the schools, the court orders and the city's traffic police have said, and how to check a van before you sign up.

SchoolNama Editorial · 15 October 2026 · 11 min read

Short answer

On 15 October 2026 SchoolNama listed no van or car operator in Lahore. Of nine Lahore school websites we checked that day, only Aitchison College published a transport charge: an optional Rs 22,000 a month in its 2026-27 fee table. The City School's FAQ rules out a school service, while noting that its campuses hold lists of van drivers. The other seven described no daily service.

How we researched this: On 15 October 2026 we counted SchoolNama's transport listings by city and read the websites of nine schools with Lahore campuses: we fetched every page listed in each site's sitemap (or, where a site had none, every page we could reach by following its internal links from the homepage) and searched the text for transport, buses, school bus, school van, vans, pick-and-drop, conveyance and shuttle; we did not open PDFs. We also read news reports from Dawn, ProPakistani, ARY News, Pakistan Today, the Associated Press of Pakistan and Daily Pakistan, an Express Tribune editorial and a Dawn opinion column, dated September 2024 to September 2026, on court orders, police rules, fees and fares relevant to school transport in Lahore and Punjab. We did not see the court judgments or government letters themselves, and we give no van fare because no official Lahore source we opened published one.

Lahore families get children to school twice a day in many ways: a bus or van the school itself runs, an owner-driver who covers a handful of neighbourhoods in a single van, a rickshaw, a family car shared with neighbours, or a motorcycle. Lahore adds a twist. Since at least 2024 the Lahore High Court has been pressing schools to move pupils out of private vehicles and into buses as an anti-smog measure, so the transport answer a school gives in 2026-27 may not be the one it gave two years ago. Use SchoolNama's /lahore page and area pages such as /lahore/model-town, /lahore/gulberg and /lahore/dha to shortlist schools; this piece deals with the journey between home and the school gate.

Our own listings are the weakest part of the picture, and we would rather say so up front. When we checked it for this guide, SchoolNama's transport directory had no provider serving Lahore, so we cannot point you to a Lahore route, operator or monthly rate from our data. The /pick-and-drop search compares your pickup area and your school with every stop on a provider's route, lets you pick one-way or both-way service; the full provider list on the same page can be filtered for a female attendant, air-conditioning, GPS tracking, a CNIC check, fixed seats and a first-aid kit. According to the page, a verified label is shown only once SchoolNama has checked the CNIC and the vehicle papers. Parents always make the first approach, since providers cannot browse parents. Lahore operators who register will appear in that same search.

We then read the websites of nine schools that teach in Lahore: Aitchison College, Lahore Grammar School (its lgs.edu.pk site, plus the lahoregrammar.school, LGS Gulberg and LGS Defence sites), Beaconhouse, The City School, Lahore American School, LACAS, Bloomfield Hall, Crescent Model Higher Secondary School and Divisional Public School. Only one, Aitchison, publishes a price for daily transport. One more, The City School, says plainly that it does not offer transport. A third, Lahore Grammar School, refers to buses and vans in a behaviour policy but describes no service. The remaining six said nothing about getting pupils to and from school on any page we could reach.

Aitchison College's fee structure for 2026-27 lists 'Transportation per month' at Rs 22,000 and marks it optional, in the same block as riding and marksmanship. The page gives no routes, pickup areas, vehicle types or timings, and it does not say whether the charge runs through the summer holidays, so a family weighing it against a private van will need those answers from the college. Even at face value, 12 monthly payments would come to Rs 264,000 a year, which is why the months billed matter. The college's SchoolNama profile is at /schools/aitchison-college-lahore, and our comparison at /news/aitchison-vs-lgs covers its fees in more detail.

The City School deals with the subject in the FAQ on its contact page, which was last edited on 27 April 2026. Its reply to the transport question is that the network 'does not offer any transportation services', while each of its campuses holds a list of van drivers. The page covers the whole network, so it applies to its Lahore campuses, among them its Paragon City campus on Burki Road, listed at /schools/the-city-school-paragon-campus-lahore. Ask your campus office for that list, and remember that vetting the driver you choose is still up to you. Lahore Grammar School's safeguarding policy on lgs.edu.pk says it covers conduct 'on school owned or rented property such as buses or vans', which tells you the policy expects such vehicles to exist but describes no service, route or charge. On the Beaconhouse, Lahore American School, LACAS, Bloomfield Hall, Crescent Model and Divisional Public School sites we found no page on pupils' daily transport. Read that as a gap in what is online rather than proof of no service; the court orders set out below required schools to file transport plans, so the admissions office may know more than the website says.

Those court orders are the main reason Lahore's school-transport picture is moving. On 20 September 2024 ProPakistani reported that Lahore's District Education Authority had written to leading private schools telling them to provide transport for half of their students by 1 October 2024, citing a Lahore High Court order. The letters, as reported, asked schools to share bus route plans with parents, keep vehicles maintained with valid fitness certificates, check fuel, tyre pressure and brakes before each trip, use licensed and medically fit drivers who give the school their CNIC and contact details, never carry more pupils than seats, and send a teacher or an aya with the children. On 23 November 2024 Dawn reported that Justice Shahid Karim had directed all schools to provide transport after the winter vacation, warned schools against sending parents notices that disclaim responsibility for transport, and told the transport department to inspect vehicles every three months and issue fitness certificates.

The pressure did not let up. ProPakistani reported on 27 December 2024 that the court had made the registration of new schools conditional on a school bus policy. On 8 January 2025 ARY News and Pakistan Today reported that the Punjab School Education Department had told all private schools to submit a transport action plan, with student numbers and a list of buses, or risk losing their registration, and a ProPakistani report the next day said the plans had to show how at least 50% of students would be carried, adding that Lahore's education authority had asked schools including Lahore Grammar School, Beaconhouse, City School and Lacas for data on bus purchases. A Dawn opinion column published on 16 September 2026 says Justice Karim delivered a judgment on 13 August 2026, which he called the last in a trilogy arising from a 2018 petition on environmental damage in Punjab, and that over the eight years of that case the provincial government was directed to press schools to shift pupils from private vehicles to buses, ensure buses for at least half of them and make transport compliance a condition of school registration. The columnist writes that the government's response has mostly been meetings and letters, and that buses carrying 20 or more children are a rare sight. We did not read the judgments ourselves.

Lahore's traffic police have their own rules for the vehicles children ride in. On 22 August 2026 the Associated Press of Pakistan and ARY News reported that Lahore's Chief Traffic Officer, Syed Abdul Rahim Sherazi, had ordered a crackdown on overloading and gas cylinders in school transport, saying LPG cylinders would not be allowed in any van, wagon or rickshaw carrying schoolchildren. According to ARY, the same order bars children from the rickshaw seat beside the driver, bans bags hung from the sides of rickshaws, limits pickups to one person in the front passenger seat, and tells police officers and the Education Unit to brief schools and parents. An Express Tribune editorial on 25 August 2026 called the crackdown long overdue. The reports we read name LPG; they do not mention CNG, so ask about any gas kit, whatever it burns. The rickshaw rule is not new: Daily Pakistan reported in September 2024 that the then chief traffic officer, Amara Athar, had already banned children from sitting beside rickshaw drivers, and that, according to reports it cited, wardens were present outside only a limited number of schools.

On price, we found no public rate card for Lahore. Aitchison's Rs 22,000 a month is the only published school transport charge we found, SchoolNama has no Lahore operator whose fee we can show you, and no official Lahore source we opened set a van tariff. In April 2026, ProPakistani reported, the Punjab government capped fare rises for public transport, but the report covered public transport and goods carriers and did not mention school vans. One older report is worth knowing: in January 2025 ProPakistani said some prominent private school networks in Punjab that had begun offering transport after the court's order were asking parents for an extra Rs 30,000 as a transport fund. If a school asks for a lump sum like that, ask what it covers, whether it is refundable and whether it buys a seat for the whole year.

Since prices are private, compare what each offer actually includes. Separate one-way quotes from both-way quotes, and a shared van from a car carrying three or four children. Lahore's schools reopened on 24 August 2026 after a three-month summer break, the Dawn column notes, so ask whether the summer months are billed. A child picked up first in the morning sits in traffic the longest, so ask how early your stop comes; ask too whether an adult other than the driver is on board for each run. If the school runs buses, ask for its route plan; the 2024 letters reported by ProPakistani told schools to share those plans with parents.

Before you agree to anything, test the route itself. Ask for the full list of stops, the time the van reaches yours, the time it reaches the school gate, how many children it carries and how long the longest ride lasts, then repeat the questions for the afternoon run, which may not mirror the morning one. Ask who drives if the regular driver is off sick. Look at the vehicle in daylight: count the seats, check for a gas cylinder in the boot or under the seats, and ask to see the fitness certificate, the driver's licence and CNIC. Be careful what you post while searching: a public message giving a child's name, school and street tells strangers more than any van owner needs, which is why on SchoolNama it is the parent who opens contact. For a longer list of questions to ask the person behind the wheel, see our general guide at /news/how-to-choose-a-school-van-safety-checklist, which applies in any city.

Checklist before you decide

  • ✓Ask the school office what it runs, contracts or recommends for the school run in 2026-27, and request its bus route plan if it has one
  • ✓If the school charges for transport, ask which months are billed and whether any up-front transport fund is refundable
  • ✓Get a both-ways and a one-way quote so you compare like with like
  • ✓Check for a gas cylinder in the boot or under the seats; Lahore's traffic police ordered in August 2026 that LPG cylinders not be allowed in school vans, wagons or rickshaws
  • ✓Look at the fitness certificate for the vehicle, and at the driver's licence and CNIC, before the first trip
  • ✓Count the seats, then ask the owner how many children travel in it; the 2024 letters reported for Lahore said no more pupils than seats
  • ✓Ask whether a female attendant, teacher or aya rides on every trip
  • ✓Ask whether every child gets a seat belt or a fixed seat, and whether a GPS tracker lets you see where the van is
  • ✓In a rickshaw, make sure no child sits beside the driver and no bags hang off the sides
  • ✓Write down the stops, the time the van reaches yours, the time it reaches the gate and the longest ride, for both morning and afternoon
  • ✓Agree where your child is dropped so they never cross a busy road alone, and who drives when the regular driver is away
  • ✓Put the fare, months covered, notice period and the terms for any rise in writing
  • ✓Give your child's details to the operator you hire and no one else

Frequently asked questions

Which Lahore schools offer transport?

Of nine Lahore school websites we checked on 15 October 2026, only Aitchison College published a transport charge: an optional Rs 22,000 a month in its 2026-27 fees. The City School's FAQ says it runs no transport and that its campuses hold van-driver lists. Lahore Grammar School's safeguarding policy refers to school owned or rented buses or vans without describing a service. Beaconhouse, Lahore American School, LACAS, Bloomfield Hall, Crescent Model and Divisional Public School had no page on daily transport. Court orders since 2024 have pushed schools to provide buses, so ask each campus directly.

Does SchoolNama list any independent van operators in Lahore?

Not as of 15 October 2026: no provider in SchoolNama's transport directory served Lahore that day. Once Lahore operators sign up, they will show in the /pick-and-drop search for your area and school.

How much does a school van cost in Lahore?

The only published figure we found was Aitchison College's optional transport charge of Rs 22,000 a month for 2026-27. No official Lahore source we opened set a van tariff, and SchoolNama lists no Lahore operator. When quotes arrive, line them up by direction, billed months, kind of vehicle, how many children share it and where your stop falls.

Do Lahore schools have to provide buses?

Courts and officials have been pushing in that direction. News reports from 2024 and 2025 describe Lahore High Court orders and Punjab School Education Department directives asking schools to transport at least half their students and tying registration to a bus policy. A Dawn column describes a further judgment in the same case on 13 August 2026. How far they are enforced at your school is a question for the school.

Can a school van in Lahore carry an LPG cylinder?

Not according to Lahore's traffic police. On 22 August 2026 APP and ARY News reported that Lahore's Chief Traffic Officer had ordered that LPG cylinders not be allowed in any van, wagon or rickshaw used for school transport. Those reports do not mention CNG, so ask about any gas kit fitted.

Will a particular van route fit my child's school day?

Get the operator to list every stop with times, including when the van reaches your door and the gate, and how long the longest passenger rides. Then match the return trip to your child's finishing time, and if the school runs its own buses, ask to see the route plan.
