School Admissions in Rawalpindi: When to Apply, Documents, Tests and Open Days

Rawalpindi has no single admission season: Punjab government schools and private schools start at different points in the year, cantonment and federal schools have their own residency rules, and several private networks register all year. We read official notices and school pages on 2 November 2026 to separate confirmed dates from general patterns.

Short answer

ProPakistani's 21 April 2026 report on Rawalpindi said private schools had begun admissions on 15 January and government schools on 1 April; individual schools differ. We found no 2027-28 deadline on Rawalpindi school pages on 2 November 2026. Daanish School Kurri, a free Islamabad school for low-income families (conditions include income under Rs 40,000 a month), takes Class 6 forms until 12 November 2026. Expect tests and interviews.

How we researched this: On 2 November 2026 we read ProPakistani's reports of 21 April 2026 (Rawalpindi age criteria) and 13 March 2026 (Punjab admissions campaign); a Dawn report of 25 February 2026 on Federal Government Educational Institutions (Cantonment/Garrison) schools; the Federal Directorate of Education's 2025-26 admission notice PDF and its online admission portal; the Daanish Schools Authority's 2027 admission advertisement; the HSSC admission policy page of FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road; and the admission pages of Roots School System, The City School, Silver Oaks Schools, Beaconhouse's online admissions form and the Fauji Foundation's education site, plus the BISE Rawalpindi home page. Three Express Tribune reports on 2026 admissions refused our request, the FGEI directorate's site and OPF's Rawalpindi admission page returned forbidden errors, Beaconhouse's admission-process pages returned not-found errors, the Army Public School and College Westridge and APSACS addresses did not resolve, Rangers Cadet College's listed web address showed an unrelated site, the Educators' admissions page was not found, Roots Millennium's site had an expired security certificate and the Daanish home page timed out, so none of these is covered beyond what is said below. Allied Schools' and Roots International's admission pages loaded but named no Rawalpindi campus, so we have not used them. We counted SchoolNama's Rawalpindi campus records, events and notices with a script on the same date.

Admissions in Rawalpindi run on several calendars at once. Punjab government schools, private schools, schools in the cantonments and federal schools in neighbouring Islamabad each set their own timing and, in some cases, their own residency rules. On 2 November 2026 SchoolNama held 1,071 Rawalpindi campus records, and none of them carries an admission date we have confirmed with the school; almost every record tells parents to contact the campus, and the three sample profiles that show admissions as open have not been checked against the schools' own notices, so we have not used them. SchoolNama's events file holds no Rawalpindi open day, and its notices file holds no Rawalpindi school admission notice. Every date below comes instead from a notice, report or school page we opened on 2 November 2026.

When should parents apply? Earlier than many expect. ProPakistani's 21 April 2026 report on Rawalpindi said private schools had begun admissions on 15 January, while government schools had started on 1 April. That is a reported pattern for the 2026 intake, not a promise for 2027, and individual private schools may differ, but it suggests that families aiming at a private school should be watching from the start of the calendar year. Punjab's education officials also pushed to raise enrolment this year: ProPakistani reported on 13 March 2026 that they announced an admissions campaign for the 2026-27 session with a minimum target of a seven percent rise in enrolment, with banners and brochures at school gates. We found no published 2027-28 admission schedule for Rawalpindi's government schools.

Which Rawalpindi schools have admissions open? None of the Rawalpindi school pages we read gave a dated deadline for the 2027-28 intake. Several private networks instead describe registration as continuous. Roots School System, whose contact address is 74 Harley Street, Rawalpindi, says registrations are open throughout the academic year, shows an admission-open notice for the 2026-27 session, and says its session begins in August or September. The City School's admissions page says registrations are open throughout the year, though registering does not guarantee a seat, and lists Rawalpindi among the cities where it offers A Level. Silver Oaks Schools, which lists more than a dozen Rawalpindi campuses on its home page, sets out a four-step process of registration, admission testing, confirmation and enrolment, but its admissions page gives no dates. Beaconhouse's online admissions form says registrations are closing soon and that a school representative will call within two working days, but it names no date, session or city. The Fauji Foundation's education site says its schools are focused on ex-servicemen's children but also welcome wards of serving armed forces personnel and civilians; it lists a Rawalpindi zonal head but no admission dates.

The clearest dated window open on 2 November 2026 is just outside the city. The Daanish Schools Authority's 2027 advertisement says Daanish School Kurri in Islamabad is taking Class 6 only, with forms issued from 19 October 2026, a last date for submission of 12 November 2026, and an entrance test on Saturday 12 December 2026. The school is free and aimed at children from poor families: the advertisement lists conditions such as a monthly household income below Rs 40,000, says selection is by written test, interview, medical check and family verification, and says no recommendations are accepted. For Class 6, age is counted on 31 March 2027, with boys 10 to 12 and girls 10 to 13. Among the places to collect a form, the advertisement lists the offices of all district education officers and the Daanish website. Read the full eligibility conditions in the advertisement before applying, since we have not confirmed how they apply to families living in Rawalpindi.

Federal and cantonment schools have their own rules. The Federal Directorate of Education's 2025-26 notice, the latest dated schedule we could open for Islamabad Model Schools, limited eligibility to residents of Islamabad Capital Territory and to federal government employees residing in Islamabad and Rawalpindi; the notice's only route that named Rawalpindi was for federal government employees living there. That notice ran registration from 17 to 28 March 2025 with classes from 17 April 2025; for 2026-27 the FDE used an online portal, which describes its schools as across Islamabad Capital Territory and lists 30 June 2026 as the closing date. We did not find a 2027-28 notice on the portal on 2 November 2026. Federal Government Educational Institutions (Cantonment/Garrison) schools are run by a directorate based in Rawalpindi. We could not open the directorate's site. A Dawn report of 25 February 2026 said schools under the directorate in cold regions would reopen on 2 March, and in the same report Dawn said FG Fazaia Public School, PAF Base Kalabagh (not in Rawalpindi), issued registration forms from 2 March 2026, held entry tests for Prep to Class X (Science) on 6 March and displayed merit lists on 9 March. Treat that as timing only, not a Rawalpindi date.

Class XI admission follows the Matric results. FG Postgraduate College for Women, Kashmir Road, says on its HSSC admission policy page that students living in the Rawalpindi Cantt area can apply, that children of civilians living in the cantonment must bring a residence certificate from the Cantonment Board, Rawalpindi or Chaklala, and that exact dates are announced in the national press after FBISE results. It asks for more than 60 percent in SSC for Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering and General Science and at least 50 percent for Humanities, reserves seats by quota for serving and retired armed forces families and defence employees, and sets a maximum age of 18 for HSSC-I.

Are tests and interviews common? Yes. All the schools and systems whose pages described a process, including the FDE's 2025-26 notice, used a test, an interview or both. The City School assesses Playgroup and Kindergarten children on reading level, vocabulary, colours and numbers, along with confidence, spoken English and motor skills; from Class I it sets a 30-minute written test in English, Urdu and Mathematics with a 50 percent pass mark, and it schedules interviews with both parents. Roots School System says no student is admitted without passing its entry test, or an interview in some cases. Silver Oaks lists admission testing as a step before confirmation. Daanish School uses a written test, interview, medical check and family verification, and FG Postgraduate College for Women asks applicants to bring original documents to the interview. For preparation, see /news/school-admission-test-preparation.

Ages are checked as well. ProPakistani reported that Rawalpindi's education department revised the minimum ages for government school admissions in April 2026: 3 for ECCE, 4 for Prep, 5 for Grade 1, rising a year per class to 14 or above for Grade 10, with students needing to be at least 13 to register for Grade 9 board exams. The report did not give a cut-off date for counting age. The FDE's 2025-26 notice counted ages on 31 March, with ECE-I at 3 to 4, ECE-II/Prep at 4 to 5 and Class I at 5 to 6, plus three months' relaxation in the upper limit. Our guide /news/class-1-admission-age-pakistan explains how cut-offs work, and /news/best-time-to-apply-school-admission-pakistan covers timing more broadly.

What documents will you need? Most schools we read ask for the child's B-Form or birth certificate, photographs and the last school's records. CNIC rules vary: Silver Oaks asks for both parents' CNICs, Roots School System for a parent's or guardian's, FG Postgraduate College for Women for the candidate's and father's CNIC or Form B, and the FDE's notice for the parents'. Roots School System asks for four passport-size colour photographs, copies of the child's NADRA child registration certificate and the family registration certificate, a parent's or guardian's CNIC, the previous school leaving certificate and the last report card. The City School asks for two passport-size photographs, an attested copy of the birth certificate and, for transfers, the last report card plus copies of the provisional and character certificates. Silver Oaks lists a CNIC or B-Form copy, photographs, the previous school leaving certificate and both parents' CNICs. The FDE's 2025-26 notice also wanted a service certificate for government employees, proof of residence such as a house allotment, rent agreement or utility bills, and, for children leaving a private school, a leaving certificate verified by PIERA. Our wider checklist is at /news/school-admission-documents-pakistan.

Where can parents find open days? We found no dated open day for the 2027-28 intake on any Rawalpindi school page we read on 2 November 2026, and SchoolNama's events file holds none for the city. The City School's admissions page links to a tour-booking page, and Silver Oaks and Beaconhouse invite parents to contact them, so ask for a visit directly, ideally before a school's registration period begins.

Because seats are limited at many schools, apply to more than one and keep every test and result date in one calendar. Build a shortlist on the Rawalpindi city page (/rawalpindi), compare costs in /news/school-fees-in-rawalpindi and /news/low-fee-schools-in-rawalpindi, check the commute with /news/schools-with-transport-in-rawalpindi, and see /news/best-schools-in-rawalpindi, /news/best-o-level-schools-in-rawalpindi or /news/best-matric-schools-in-rawalpindi for a wider view. If you are weighing federal schools across the boundary, our Islamabad guide (/news/school-admissions-in-islamabad) covers them in more detail. Then confirm dates with each school directly, since none of the Rawalpindi schools we read published a 2027-28 deadline.
