School Admissions in Quetta: When to Apply, Documents, Tests and Open Days
Quetta's school year starts in March, after the winter break, but few of its schools publish admission dates online. The City School registers all year, and three boys' cadet colleges list Quetta as a test centre. We read official school pages, the Balochistan board's site and news reports on 4 November 2026 to separate confirmed facts from general patterns.
Short answer
Plan around March. Quetta's schools reopened on 2 March 2026 after the winter break, which marked the start of the new academic year. Few Quetta schools had published 2027 dates on 4 November 2026. The City School registers all year. For boys, Cadet College Hasanabdal tests in Quetta and takes Class 8 applications until 4 December 2026. Every school page that described a process set a test, interview or both.
How we researched this: On 4 November 2026 we read The City School's admissions page; Beaconhouse's pages for its Quetta Cantonment, Elementary and College Campus Juniper branches in Quetta; Cadet College Hasanabdal's Class 8 (O Level) admission page; Cadet College Jhelum's Admissions-2027 and Written Test pages; Cadet College Okara's home page and admission policy page; the BISE Quetta (BBISE) home page; ProPakistani's 27 October 2026 report on Cadet College Larkana; The State of Children in Pakistan's republication of an Express Tribune report of 3 March 2026; ARY News's 17 November 2025 report; Dawn's 1 April 2026 report; and APP's 6 July 2026 report. Girls Cadet College Quetta's website returned errors when we tried it, and Cadet College Okara's extended deadline is in a PDF and an image we could not read, so we give no dates from either. Listings on admission aggregator sites are not used. We counted SchoolNama's Quetta campus records, events, notices and transport providers with a script on the same date.
Admissions in Quetta follow the cold-region calendar. Government and many private schools start their year in early spring, after a long winter break, while boarding cadet colleges that test candidates in Quetta recruit in the autumn before. On 4 November 2026 SchoolNama held 28 Quetta campus records, and none of them is marked as having admissions open; their notes ask parents to call the school or contact the campus office. SchoolNama's events file holds no Quetta open day, its notices file holds no Quetta-specific notice, only province-wide ones, and it lists no pick-and-drop provider in Quetta yet. Every date and rule below comes from a school page, board page or report we opened on 4 November 2026.
When should parents apply? Before the school year starts in March. The State of Children in Pakistan, republishing an Express Tribune report of 3 March 2026, said schools, colleges and universities in Balochistan's cold districts, including Quetta, reopened on 2 March 2026 after a winter break of about two and a half months, marking the start of the new academic year. ARY News reported on 17 November 2025 that the Balochistan government had announced winter vacations for schools in colder regions from 16 December, with schools reopening on 1 March. We found no announcement yet of the 2026-27 winter break or of a 2027 admission schedule for Quetta's government schools, so ask your nearest school before the break begins in December and again when it reopens.
The 2026 year did not run smoothly, which is worth knowing when you plan. Dawn reported on 1 April 2026 that schools in Balochistan, closed from 10 to 31 March because of a fuel crisis, would reopen on 1 April on a five-day week. APP reported on 6 July 2026 that public and private schools in Balochistan's winter zone would close for a summer break from 18 July to 2 August 2026, with classes in both zones resuming on 3 August. If a school's admission window falls in early March, confirm it has not moved.
Which schools have admissions open? The City School's admissions page says registrations are open throughout the year, though registering does not guarantee a seat, and it lists Quetta among the cities where it offers A Level. It places children by their age on 31 July for sessions starting in August, or on 28 February for sessions starting in March or April. Beaconhouse lists three Quetta branches: its Quetta Cantonment Campus and its Elementary Campus on Main Samungli Road offer the Early Years and Primary Years programmes, and its College Campus Juniper in the Samungli Housing Scheme lists the Early Years, Primary Years, Middle Years and Secondary School programmes. None of the three pages gives admission dates; each links to Beaconhouse's online admissions portal. For these and the other schools on your shortlist, ask the school office for the 2027 schedule.
For boys aiming at a boarding cadet college, Quetta is a test centre for several. Cadet College Hasanabdal's Class 8 (O Level) page lists Quetta among its centres, with a last date to apply of 4 December 2026 and an entry test on 27 December 2026. Applications are online only, the non-refundable registration fee is Rs 7,000 plus Rs 58 in bank charges, and candidates must be between 12 and 14 years old on 1 August of the year of entry, with no relaxation. Cadet College Jhelum's Written Test page lists Quetta among its centres in Pakistan; its Admissions-2027 page invites applications for Classes 7 and 8 and asks for a Rs 3,000 bank draft for the prospectus, but gives no 2027 deadline or test date. Cadet College Okara's admission policy page, which is written for entry to Class 8, also lists Quetta as a centre, and its home page says registration for Pre-9th and IGCSE O Level for session 2027 is open with an extended last date that we could not read.
Cadet College Larkana, as ProPakistani reported on 27 October 2026, takes applications for Classes 7 and 8 for 2027-28 until 26 December 2026 and holds its entry test on 10 January 2027. Quetta is not one of its centres, but the report lists Dera Murad Jamali, in Balochistan, among the centres to be established. The report gives age limits on 30 June 2027 of 11 to 13 years for Class 7 and 12 to 14 for Class 8, with no relaxation, and a Rs 3,000 charge for the form and prospectus. For girls, Girls Cadet College Quetta's website returned errors when we tried it on 4 November 2026, so we could not check whether its next intake has been announced; contact the college directly.
Are tests and interviews common? Yes. Every school whose page described a process used a test, an interview or both. The City School assesses Playgroup and Kindergarten children on reading level, vocabulary, colours and numbers; from Class I it sets a 30-minute test in English, Urdu and Mathematics with a 50 percent pass mark, and it schedules interviews with both parents. Cadet College Hasanabdal sets an entry test, and Cadet College Okara a written test followed, for those who pass, by an interview and medical examination. Cadet College Jhelum tests applicants from Class 7 onwards in English, Urdu, Mathematics and Science. For preparation, see /news/school-admission-test-preparation, and for age cut-offs see /news/class-1-admission-age-pakistan.
What documents will you need? The City School asks for two passport-size photographs, an attested copy of the birth certificate and, for transfers, the last report card plus copies of the provisional and character certificates. Cadet College Okara asks for four passport-size photographs attested by the head of the current school, a copy of the NADRA Form-B, and copies of both parents' CNICs. Keep the last school's report card ready as well, and ask each school for its own list. Our wider checklist is at /news/school-admission-documents-pakistan.
Board registration is a separate step for older children. The BISE Quetta website posted the date sheet for its SSC Annual Examination 2027 on 17 October 2026 and carries an SSC online registration link, but showed no registration dates on its home page. Schools usually handle board registration, but if your child is joining a new school in Class 9 or 10, ask whether it has been done.
Where can parents find open days? We found no dated open day for the 2027 intake on any Quetta school page we read on 4 November 2026, and SchoolNama's events file holds none for the city. Ask schools for a campus visit directly, ideally before the winter break begins.
Because seats are limited and most Quetta schools had not published 2027 dates, apply to more than one school and keep every deadline and test date in one calendar. Build a shortlist on the Quetta city page (/quetta), compare costs in /news/school-fees-in-quetta and /news/low-fee-schools-in-quetta, and see /news/best-schools-in-quetta, /news/best-matric-schools-in-quetta or /news/best-o-level-schools-in-quetta for a wider view. /news/best-time-to-apply-school-admission-pakistan covers timing more broadly, and /news/school-admissions-in-karachi shows how another large city's schools compare. Then confirm dates with each school directly.
