School Admissions in Gujranwala: When to Apply, Documents, Tests and Open Days

Few Gujranwala schools publish admission dates online. Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School sets out its own admission months, a boys' cadet college lists Gujranwala as a possible test centre, and The City School registers all year. We read official school pages, the Gujranwala board's site and news reports on 4 November 2026 to separate confirmed facts from general patterns.

Short answer

Most Gujranwala schools checked had not published 2027-28 dates on 4 November 2026. Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School takes Nursery applications in February and Prep to Class 8 in March and September. Cadet College Jhelum, for boys, lists Gujranwala as a test centre, though another page says tests are at the college. The City School registers all year. Every school page describing a process set a test, interview or both.

How we researched this: On 4 November 2026 we read Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School & College's How to Apply and FAQ pages; Cadet College Jhelum's Admissions-2027, General, Written Test and How to Apply pages and its online admission portal; Cadet College Hasanabdal's Class 8 (O Level) admission page; PAF College Lower Topa's 2027 admission schedule; The City School's admissions page; Beaconhouse's Wapda Town and Citi Housing branch pages in Gujranwala; Roots International's admissions procedure and campus pages; Lahore Grammar School's website; the BISE Gujranwala homepage; the Punjab Education Foundation's Education Voucher Scheme and Foundation Assisted Schools FAQ pages; Daily Pakistan's 17 January 2026 report; Aaj English's 15 January 2025 report; and ProPakistani's reports of 13 March, 13 May, 9 June, 25 September and 13 October 2026. Beaconhouse's online admissions portal returned a server error, and Roots' campus directory showed no campuses when we tried it, so neither is used for dates. We counted SchoolNama's Gujranwala campus records, events and notices with a script on the same date.

Admissions in Gujranwala do not follow one calendar. Punjab's government schools work to a provincial session, private schools and networks set their own timing, and boarding cadet colleges that test candidates in Gujranwala run their own schedules. On 4 November 2026 SchoolNama held 72 Gujranwala campus records, and none of them carries an admission date we have confirmed with the school; every one tells parents to contact the campus. SchoolNama's events file holds no Gujranwala open day, and its notices file holds no Gujranwala school admission notice. Every date and rule below comes instead from a school page, board page or report we opened on 4 November 2026.

Which schools have admissions open? The clearest published admission routine for a Gujranwala school belongs to Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School & College on G.T. Road. Its How to Apply page says Nursery applications are invited in February, and that admissions to Prep through Class 8 are invited in March and September only, and only where a seat is vacant. Admission to Classes 9 and 10 is limited to transfer cases when a seat is free, and First Year (F.Sc.) admissions open soon after the SSC result is announced. Its FAQ says students sit an entrance test at the time of admission, held in February, and that forms are obtained from the school's admission office. The page gives no year or session, so treat this as the school's usual pattern and confirm the 2027 dates with its office.

For boys aiming at a boarding cadet college, Cadet College Jhelum's Admissions-2027 page invites applications for Classes 7 and 8 on open merit, and its Written Test page lists Gujranwala among its test centres in Pakistan. Its How to Apply page, however, says the written test will be held at the college, and none of its text pages gave a last date or test date for 2027, while its online portal was still headed 2026 admissions. The registration fee is Rs 3,000, paid online or by bank draft. The college's General page gives age limits of 11 to 13 years for Class 7 and 12 to 14 years for Class 8 or O Level, without stating the date on which age is counted. Call the college to confirm the 2027 deadline, test date and whether a Gujranwala centre will be used before you rely on it.

Cadet College Hasanabdal, another boys' boarding college, has a dated window open now for Class 8 (O Level): its admission page gives a last date to apply of 4 December 2026 and an entry test on 27 December 2026, with applications online only and a non-refundable registration fee of Rs 7,000 plus Rs 58 in bank charges. Gujranwala is not on its list of test centres; its listed centres include Lahore, and the list also includes an online option. The college says a candidate must be between 12 and 14 years old on 1 August of the year of entry, with no relaxation of the age limit.

The City School's admissions page says registrations are open throughout the year, though registering does not guarantee a seat, and it lists Gujranwala among the cities where it offers A Level. It places children by age on 31 July for sessions starting in August, or on 28 February for sessions starting in March or April. Roots International's admissions procedure page says its schools accept students from March through August and that registration is open all year, but its campus directory showed no campuses when we tried it, so we could not confirm a Gujranwala campus on its own site; check with the school directly.

Other well-known Gujranwala schools had nothing dated online. Beaconhouse's pages for its Wapda Town Campus and its Citi Housing Campus on Canal Bank Road list their programmes and contact numbers but no admission dates, and link to an online admissions portal that returned a server error when we tried it. Lahore Grammar School's website says LGS has a branch in Gujranwala, but the admission dates and contact details on that site are for the Lahore campuses it covers, not Gujranwala. For these and the other schools on your list, ask the school office directly for the 2027-28 schedule.

When should parents apply? Earlier than many families expect. Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School's pattern points to February for Nursery, and cadet colleges run months ahead of term. PAF College Lower Topa, which takes boys only, shows how far ahead: online registration for its 2027 selection ran from 8 September to 4 October 2026, with reporting tentatively on 20 April 2027. Gujranwala is not on its list of test centres, and registration for that intake has closed, but it is a useful guide to timing for the next cycle.

Punjab's government schools work to a different year. Daily Pakistan reported on 17 January 2026 that the province's new academic year would begin on 1 April 2026, with free textbooks for newly admitted pupils in government schools from 5 April. For the year before, Aaj English reported on 15 January 2025 that the Punjab education department's admission policy for the Rawalpindi division opened government-school admissions in two phases, from 1 April to 31 May for Classes I and II and from 15 August to 31 October for further intakes, and that a private schools' association said private-school admissions would begin on 1 February. That is a past pattern for a neighbouring division, not a 2027 schedule for Gujranwala, and we found no published 2027 admission schedule for Gujranwala's government schools. ProPakistani also reported on 13 March 2026 that Punjab's education officials announced an admissions campaign for the 2026-27 session with a minimum target of a seven percent rise in enrolment.

Families looking for free schooling have a separate route. The Punjab Education Foundation's Education Voucher Scheme FAQ says the scheme now covers all 36 districts of Punjab and that schools may not charge voucher-holders any fee, including admission charges. Parents cannot apply for a voucher directly: cards are issued after nomination by a partner school or a household survey, and parents can then take the voucher to any partner school of their choice. The foundation's FAQ for Foundation Assisted Schools says those schools may not charge enrolled students any fee and must display a PEF board on the main gate, which is one way to spot one nearby. ProPakistani reported on 13 May 2026 that the foundation gave its licensed schools until 14 May to complete enrolment for 2026-27, so ask early in the year.

For children from deserving families, ProPakistani reported on 13 October 2026 that the Punjab Daanish Schools had announced Class 6 admissions for 2027, open to children who have passed Class 5, with age limits of 10 to 12 for boys and 10 to 13 for girls. The report said 90 percent of places are for deserving students and 10 percent are self-finance at Rs 20,500 a month. It gave no application deadline or campus list, and we did not confirm a campus in or near Gujranwala, so check with the authority before applying.

Are tests and interviews common? Yes. Every school whose page described a process used a test, an interview or both. Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School holds an entrance test in February. Cadet College Jhelum admits on an intelligence test, a written examination, an interview and a medical examination, with the written test for Class 7 onwards in English, Urdu, Mathematics and Science. Cadet College Hasanabdal sets a three-hour written test in Mathematics, English with Islamiat, and Urdu with General Science, then calls those who qualify for an interview and medical examination. The City School assesses Playgroup and Kindergarten children on reading level, vocabulary, colours and numbers; from Class I it sets a 30-minute test in English, Urdu and Mathematics with a 50 percent pass mark, and it schedules interviews with both parents. Roots International says junior and higher school applicants take an admission test. For preparation, see /news/school-admission-test-preparation, and for age cut-offs see /news/class-1-admission-age-pakistan.

Board registration is a separate step for older children. The BISE Gujranwala website carries a Class 9 online registration link for the 2026-28 session but showed no dates on its homepage. ProPakistani reported on 9 June 2026 that all educational boards across Punjab extended Class 9 registration for the 2026-2028 session: forms without a late fee from 25 April to 22 June 2026, and with a Rs 600 late fee per student from 23 June to 7 July 2026; the report did not name Gujranwala separately. ProPakistani also reported on 25 September 2026 that BISE Gujranwala raised its admission processing fee for Classes 9 to 12 from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,300, effective 19 September 2026. Schools usually handle board registration, but if your child is joining a new school in Class 9, ask whether it has been done. Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School asks transfer students in Classes 9 and 10 from another board for a no-objection certificate from that board.

What documents will you need? Every school that listed documents asked for the child's B-Form or birth certificate, and most also for photographs and records from the last school. Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School asks for the NADRA B-Form or birth certificate and two recent photographs, plus a school leaving certificate where relevant and, from Prep onwards, attested copies of the father's CNIC; First Year applicants also need the SSC marks sheet, a character certificate and, if from another board, a migration certificate. The City School asks for two passport-size photographs, an attested copy of the birth certificate and, for transfers, the last report card plus copies of the provisional and character certificates. Roots International lists provisional and character certificates, the original school leaving certificate, two photographs, the last report card, an attested birth certificate or B-Form and the father's or guardian's CNIC. Cadet College Jhelum asks for a B-Form or birth certificate, photographs and the fee slip, and Cadet College Hasanabdal for an attested NADRA Form-B. Our wider checklist is at /news/school-admission-documents-pakistan.

Where can parents find open days? We found no dated open day for the 2027-28 intake on any Gujranwala school page we read on 4 November 2026, and SchoolNama's events file holds none for the city. The City School's admissions page links to a tour-booking page; for other schools, ask for a visit directly, ideally before the school's registration deadline.

Because seats are limited at many schools, and Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School admits to most classes only when a seat is vacant, apply to more than one school and keep every deadline and test date in one calendar. Build a shortlist on the Gujranwala city page (/gujranwala), compare costs in /news/school-fees-in-gujranwala and /news/low-fee-schools-in-gujranwala, and see /news/best-schools-in-gujranwala, /news/best-matric-schools-in-gujranwala or /news/best-o-level-schools-in-gujranwala for a wider view. /news/best-time-to-apply-school-admission-pakistan covers timing more broadly, and /news/school-admissions-in-lahore shows how Lahore's schools compare. Then confirm dates with each school directly, since most Gujranwala schools we read had not published a 2027-28 deadline.

Checklist before you decide

  • ✓If Quaid-e-Azam Divisional Public School is on your list, ask its admission office now for the 2027 dates: its usual pattern is Nursery applications in February and Prep to Class 8 in March and September.
  • ✓If your son is applying to Cadet College Jhelum, call the college to confirm the 2027 deadline, test date and whether the test will be held in Gujranwala.
  • ✓If your son is applying to Cadet College Hasanabdal for Class 8 (O Level), check the age rule first, then apply online by 4 December 2026 and pick a test centre that suits you.
  • ✓For Beaconhouse, LGS, Roots and other schools, call the campus office and ask for the 2027-28 admission schedule, since none was published online for Gujranwala.
  • ✓The City School registers year-round, so register early if it is on your list; registering does not guarantee a seat.
  • ✓For a Punjab government school, watch for the new session's admissions; the 2026 academic year was set to begin on 1 April.
  • ✓If you are looking for a free place, ask nearby schools showing a PEF board whether they have seats, since voucher cards come through partner-school nomination or PEF surveys.
  • ✓Gather the child's B-Form or birth certificate, passport-size photographs, the father's CNIC and the last school's report card and leaving certificate early.
  • ✓If your child is joining a new school in Class 9, ask whether board registration has been done, and bring a no-objection certificate if moving from another board.
  • ✓Book a campus visit directly, since none of the school pages we read listed a dated open day, and shortlist on /gujranwala before paying any registration fee.
