School Admissions in Abbottabad: When to Apply, Documents, Tests and Open Days

Abbottabad's boarding and cadet-style schools recruit months ahead of term, while most day schools publish little online. Abbottabad Public School is taking forms until 30 November 2026, and Cadet College Hasanabdal lists Abbottabad as a test centre. We read official school pages, KP education pages and news reports on 4 November 2026 to separate confirmed dates from general patterns.

Short answer

Apply early. Abbottabad Public School, a boys' school, accepts entry-test forms until 30 November 2026 and tests on 25 December. Cadet College Hasanabdal, which lists Abbottabad as a test centre, takes Class 8 applications until 4 December 2026. Both Army Burn Hall colleges have posted admission notices, but their dates were in images we could not read. Every school that described its process sets a test, interview or both.

How we researched this: On 4 November 2026 we read Abbottabad Public School's home and admissions pages; the home page, Admission page, Fee Structure page and Session 2027 news item of Army Burn Hall College for Boys; the home page, admission policy page and 21 October 2026 admissions notice of Army Burn Hall College for Girls; Tameer-i-Wattan Public School and College's home and admissions pages; Beaconhouse's Abbottabad Campus page; the Class 8 (O Level) admission page of Cadet College Hasanabdal, Cadet College Kohat's admissions portal, Cadet College Swat's Class VIII page and PAF College Lower Topa's admission schedule; ProPakistani's 27 October 2026 report on Cadet College Larkana; the BISE Abbottabad home page; the semester system policy page of KP's Elementary and Secondary Education Department; the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority's home page; Dawn's reports of 25 February and 27 April 2026; and APP's 19 August 2025 report on winter-zone closures. Army Burn Hall's 2027 notices and fee table are images we could not read, so we give no dates or fees from them. Listings on admission aggregator sites are not used. We counted SchoolNama's Abbottabad campus records, events and notices with a script on the same date.

Admissions in Abbottabad run on several calendars at once. Boarding and cadet-style schools recruit for the following year from autumn, private day schools set their own timing, and government schools follow a provincial semester calendar. On 4 November 2026 SchoolNama held 46 Abbottabad campus records, and none of them is marked as having admissions open; their notes ask parents to call the school or contact the campus office. SchoolNama's events file holds no Abbottabad open day, and its notices file holds no Abbottabad school admission notice; its one Abbottabad notice is a BISE Abbottabad exam date sheet. Every date below comes from a school page, an official page or a report we opened on 4 November 2026.

Which schools have admissions open? The clearest published window in the city belongs to Abbottabad Public School on Mansehra Road, which describes itself as a boarding school for boys in grades VII to XII and also offers day places to boys from Abbottabad. Its admissions page, headed Session 2026-27, says registration for the entry test for Classes 7 and 8 and its IGCSE / O Level pathway is open, that forms may be submitted up to 30 November 2026, and that the test is on 25 December 2026. Entry is mainly into grade VII, with limited lateral entry into higher grades where places allow. For the Grade 8 IGCSE / O Level pathway, candidates must be 12 to 14 years old on 31 March 2027 and have completed Grade 7. The page lists a one-off admission, registration and processing charge of Rs 25,000 alongside other one-time charges, including a refundable security deposit, and quarterly fees, and says fees may be revised. It names no test centres and gives no online form link, saying registration links will be published as they open, so contact the school to get a form.

Army Burn Hall College for Boys posted an 'Admission Session 2027' item on its website on 5 October 2026, and Army Burn Hall College for Girls posted an 'Admissions Open' notice on 21 October 2026 covering Pre-Montessori (day scholars, boys and girls), Prep, Class I, PJC-II and PJC-VI (girls' day scholars), and Prep to Class VI for boarding boys. In both cases the dates, fees and test details sit in an image we could not read, so we give none here; call the college or open the notice yourself before relying on any deadline you see quoted elsewhere. The boys' college's admission page sets its entry points as Prep, Class 7, FSc First Year and A Level. Prep candidates must be 5 to 6 years old and Class 7 candidates 12 to 13 on 1 March of the year of admission. For FSc, outside candidates sit an entry test held on an all-Pakistan basis to fill vacant seats only, and admission is confirmed by their final board result. The girls' college's admission policy says Pre-Montessori is its main point of entry, that its entrance tests are held early in the year, and that test and interview dates and venues are advertised in the press in the last quarter of the previous year; admission to Classes I to IX during the session is granted only in exceptional cases.

Tameer-i-Wattan Public School and College, which lists boys', girls', junior and Mirpur campuses in Abbottabad, had not posted a 2027-28 notice when we checked. Its home page still showed its 2025-26 announcement for Play Group to Class 9 at its Abbottabad and Mansehra campuses, with a last date of 4 February 2025 and a written test on 5 February 2025. Its admissions page says the test is held on 5 February every year, but that page appears to date from 2021-22, so treat February as the school's usual pattern and confirm the 2027 date with the school. Beaconhouse's page for its Abbottabad Campus, near the DIG office opposite the PTCL exchange in the cantonment, lists programmes from Early Years to College but no admission dates.

For boys aiming at a cadet college, Abbottabad is a test centre for several. Cadet College Hasanabdal's Class 8 (O Level) page gives a last date to apply of 4 December 2026 and an entry test on 27 December 2026, with Abbottabad among its listed centres. Applications are online only, the non-refundable registration fee is Rs 7,000 plus Rs 58 in bank charges, and candidates must be between 12 and 14 years old on 1 August of the year of entry, with no relaxation. One instruction on the same page says forms close 15 days before the test, which would fall later than 4 December, so confirm the deadline with the college's admission office. Cadet College Kohat's portal for its 63rd entry to Class 8 also lists Abbottabad as a centre, but its registration closed on 20 October 2026 and its test was on 25 October. PAF College Lower Topa, which takes boys only, lists Abbottabad among its test centres; online registration for its 43rd Pre-Cadet Entry ran from 8 September to 4 October 2026, so that window has closed too, but it shows how early these colleges recruit. Cadet College Swat's page does not list Abbottabad as a centre, and Cadet College Larkana's centres, as reported by ProPakistani on 27 October 2026, do not include Abbottabad either.

When should parents apply? For boarding and cadet colleges, in the autumn before the year of entry: the windows above close between October and December. For government schools, it depends on which calendar the school follows. KP's Elementary and Secondary Education Department's semester policy gives two calendars. In the summer zone, the fall semester runs from 1 September to 31 December; in the winter zone, the spring semester runs from 1 March to 30 June and the fall semester from 1 August to 15 December, with winter vacations from 16 December to 28 February. Dawn reported on 27 April 2026 that the academic year starts on 1 March in the winter zone and on 1 September in the summer zone. The policy page does not say which districts are in which zone. APP reported on 19 August 2025 that colleges and universities in Abbottabad were among the Hazara institutions closed under a winter-zone order, but we found no official list placing Abbottabad's schools in a zone, so ask the school or the district education office which calendar applies. Dawn also reported in the same 27 April article that private schools in KP run from April to March, so expect most private day schools to admit for a spring start.

Cantonment schools follow their own year. Dawn reported on 25 February 2026 that schools in cold regions run by the Federal Government Educational Institutions (Cantonment/Garrison) Directorate would reopen on 2 March 2026, that admissions would formally begin with the reopening, and that the directorate's institutions in Abbottabad were ready for the new year. The same report said FG Fazaia Public School PAF Base Kalabagh would make registration forms for Prep to Class X (Science) available from 2 March 2026, hold entry tests on 6 March and display merit lists on 9 March. That session has passed, so treat it as a pattern only and ask your nearest FG or cantonment school for the 2027 dates.

Are tests and interviews common? Yes. Every school whose page described a process used a test, an interview or both. Abbottabad Public School admits by competitive test and interviews shortlisted candidates before sending offer letters. Army Burn Hall College for Girls tests Pre-Montessori children in English, Urdu and Mathematics, covering letter recognition, naming objects, counting and numbers, and adds an interview; older classes take a written test. Army Burn Hall College for Boys requires every candidate to be medically fit. Tameer-i-Wattan's admissions page describes an entry test on the previous class's course followed by an interview, with an aptitude or picture-based test for Prep and Nursery, and says candidates scoring under 60 percent are not eligible. Cadet College Hasanabdal sets a three-hour written test in Mathematics, English with Islamiat, and Urdu with General Science. For preparation, see /news/school-admission-test-preparation, and for age cut-offs, /news/class-1-admission-age-pakistan.

What documents will you need? Tameer-i-Wattan's admissions page asks for a photocopy of the child's NADRA Form-B or birth certificate, two recent passport-size photographs and a photocopy of the father's CNIC (or the guardian's, if the father has died), and, once admission is confirmed, the original school leaving certificate and a migration certificate where relevant. Army Burn Hall College for Boys asks for its prescribed admission form with a demand draft or pay order, and a copy of the Form-B for any age waiver. Cadet College Hasanabdal asks for an attested copy of the NADRA Form-B. Keep the last school's report card ready too, and ask each school for its own list. Our wider checklist is at /news/school-admission-documents-pakistan.

Board registration and school registration are separate checks. BISE Abbottabad's home page links to online Class 9 enrolment but showed no enrolment dates when we read it; its recent notices covered SSC and HSSC exams and HSSC registration for 2026-27. Before paying a private school, check it on the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority's site, which links to a list of registered private schools in KP and a school verification page, and points complaints to the Pakistan Citizen Portal.

Where can parents find open days? We found no dated open day for the 2027-28 intake on any Abbottabad school page we read on 4 November 2026, and SchoolNama's events file holds none for the city. Ask schools for a campus visit directly, ideally before their registration closes.

Because seats are limited and several windows close within weeks, apply to more than one school and keep every deadline and test date in one calendar. Build a shortlist on the Abbottabad city page (/abbottabad), compare costs in /news/school-fees-in-abbottabad and /news/low-fee-schools-in-abbottabad, and see /news/best-schools-in-abbottabad, /news/best-matric-schools-in-abbottabad or /news/best-o-level-schools-in-abbottabad for a wider view. /news/best-time-to-apply-school-admission-pakistan covers timing more broadly, and /news/school-admissions-in-peshawar covers the provincial capital. Then confirm dates with each school directly, since most Abbottabad day schools we read had not published a 2027-28 deadline.

Can I take a cadet college entry test in Abbottabad?

Cadet College Hasanabdal, Cadet College Kohat and PAF College Lower Topa all list Abbottabad as a test centre. Of these, only Hasanabdal's Class 8 window was still open on 4 November 2026. Cadet College Swat and Cadet College Larkana do not list Abbottabad.

When does the school year start in Abbottabad?

It depends on the school. KP's winter-zone calendar starts the year on 1 March and the summer-zone calendar on 1 September, and Dawn reported that private schools in KP run from April to March. We could not confirm which zone Abbottabad's government schools fall in, so ask the school.

Every school page we read that described its process does. Abbottabad Public School uses a competitive entry test and interviews shortlisted candidates. Army Burn Hall College for Girls tests Pre-Montessori children in English, Urdu and Mathematics and adds an interview. Tameer-i-Wattan uses an entry test followed by an interview.

Can SchoolNama tell me an Abbottabad school's admission dates?

Not yet. None of our 46 Abbottabad campus records had admissions marked open on 4 November 2026, and their notes ask parents to contact the school. Use SchoolNama to shortlist, then confirm dates with each school.
