Roots Millennium vs Beaconhouse: Curriculum, Fees, Culture and Campus Differences
One says it has about four dozen campuses and grew out of a 1988 Rawalpindi school; the other says it educates hundreds of thousands of children in six countries. We read both networks' own pages and Islamabad's fee register to show where they really differ, and what to ask a branch before you pay.
Short answer
Roots Millennium Schools is run by The Millennium Education (TME), which pairs Edexcel-based primary years with Cambridge IGCSE and A Level, and says one Islamabad campus is IB MYP-authorised. Beaconhouse teaches its own curriculum to Class VIII, then mostly O Level, across a much larger footprint. Neither is better overall: programmes, class ranges and fees vary by campus, so compare branches.
How we researched this: On 1 October 2026 we read the Roots Millennium (tme.edu.pk) and Beaconhouse (beaconhouse.net) websites, including both campus finders for SchoolNama's 15 launch cities, their curriculum, admissions and policy pages, ICT-PEIRA's online fee register for Islamabad, a Cambridge International notice and a Dawn report. We counted SchoolNama listings for each network with a script over our campus files. We did not rank the networks or use SchoolNama's unconfirmed fees or demo reviews.
Start by making sure you are looking at the right school. Several networks in Pakistan use the Roots name, and they are easy to mix up. Roots Millennium Schools is the school brand of The Millennium Education, usually shortened to TME. TME's About page describes it as an extension of the Roots School System, which Mrs Riffat Mushtaq opened at 74 Harley Street, Rawalpindi, in April 1988, and names Dr Chaudhry Faisal Mushtaq as chief executive. The Roots School System still runs its own website, listing a DHA-1 flagship campus in Islamabad. Roots International Schools & Colleges is different again, with its own website and its own campuses, such as Wellington and Richmond in Islamabad and Kingswood in Karachi. Islamabad's fee register also lists separate Roots IVY schools. This guide covers Roots Millennium and TME only, so check the exact name on any campus sign, prospectus or fee bill.
The two networks differ hugely in size. Beaconhouse says it started in November 1975 as the Les Anges Montessori Academy with 19 toddlers and now teaches about 400,000 students in six countries. TME's About page claims 48 campuses in more than 20 cities and over 20,000 learners, all in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Its own figures do not quite agree. The regional breakdown on that page adds up to 46, while its regional campus pages list 48 distinct entries, ten of them under the Future World School name, a sister brand in the same group. Neither network's size tells you anything about the branch near your home.
Coverage across SchoolNama's launch cities follows from that gap in size. On 1 October 2026 Beaconhouse's campus finder held 149 entries in the 15 cities, 22 of them tagged as College Programme (A Level) branches. TME's regional pages listed 32 campuses under the TME or Roots Millennium name in 11 of the 15 cities, plus 10 Future World School branches. We found no TME or Roots Millennium campus listed in Faisalabad, Quetta, Bahawalpur or Sukkur. The second table breaks this down city by city. Treat it as a map of where to look, not a measure of quality. Beaconhouse often lists junior, senior and college sections as separate entries, and TME's online admission form names an I-9 campus in Islamabad that its Islamabad campus page leaves out.
The early and middle years are where the two curricula diverge most. Beaconhouse says its students follow an in-house Beaconhouse curriculum up to Class VIII, and that most then move on to O Level. TME's FAQ says it uses Edexcel at primary level and a Cambridge curriculum from lower secondary up to A Level, and it lists Cambridge Checkpoint among its qualifications. TME describes its Middle Years stage as a qualification aligned to both national and international examinations. Either way, ask the campus to show you the textbooks and the assessment calendar for your child's class.
At secondary level, the routes have different names and lengths. On its O Level page, Beaconhouse puts the usual load at seven to ten subjects spread across two or three years, and notes that IGCSE is available at only a few of its schools. It describes its Matric as a two-year course leading to the Class X exam set by federal and provincial boards. TME calls its main Cambridge stage IGCSE, describes it as a three-year course for learners aged 14 to 16, and says in its FAQ that IGCSE is taken through Cambridge and Edexcel. Its Matric is described as a three-year course starting in Grade 8, using the FBISE, BISE Rawalpindi or BISE Peshawar boards. However, TME's Matric page names only four campuses that offer it: Future World School's H-11 campus in Islamabad, Pine Campus in Abbottabad, Future World School DHA Peshawar and River Tree Campus in Nowshera. If you want Matric at a Roots Millennium branch, confirm that the branch actually runs it. SchoolNama's guides at /news/igcse-vs-o-levels-pakistan and /news/o-levels-vs-matric-in-pakistan explain the trade-offs between these routes.
For A Level, check where your child would actually study. Beaconhouse runs A Level through the Beaconhouse College Programme (BCP), at the branches its finder tags for it. TME's College Years page lists the IB Diploma, Cambridge A Level, Cambridge Pre-U and HSSC. Cambridge International, however, announced in 2019 that it was withdrawing Pre-U, with the last exams in June 2023 and resits in June 2024, so that page is out of date. TME's directory of A Level principals names eight campuses, and five of them are Future World School & College branches. TME's FAQ sets the entry bar for AS Level at five IGCSE passes, or an overall A grade or 70% for students coming from Matric. Ask which campus would teach your child in Classes 11 and 12, and whether a move between branches or brands would be needed.
Both networks run IB at only a handful of sites. Beaconhouse's finder tags six entries with an IB programme: the Diploma at PECHS in Karachi, BCP IBDP Margalla and Newlands in Islamabad, and TNS Defence in Lahore; the Middle Years and Primary Years programmes at TNS Gulberg in Lahore; and the Primary Years programme at Clifton in Karachi. Beaconhouse's About page also says its Newlands school in Multan became PYP-authorised in 2019. TME says its One World Campus in E-11/4, Islamabad, is authorised for the IB Middle Years Programme, and that campus's filing with Islamabad's regulator includes a fee line labelled IBD. We could not open the IB's own school directory to confirm either network's status, so check it yourself before relying on an IB label. Our guide at /news/ib-vs-cambridge-pakistan sets out how IB compares with Cambridge.
Islamabad is the one place where you can see figures that the schools filed themselves. ICT-PEIRA's online register lists ten Roots Millennium entries in the capital. Only the One World Campus had filed for 2025-26: Rs 31,850 for Grade I, Rs 43,980 for each IGCSE year, a Rs 35,000 admission fee and Rs 29,500 in other annual charges. Four campuses filed for 2024-25, with Grade I between Rs 23,300 and Rs 24,290. The other five filings date from 2023-24 or 2022-23, so their figures are out of date. The register does not say whether class fees are monthly, and PEIRA says the schools themselves are responsible for any errors. A search of the register for Beaconhouse returned no entries on 1 October 2026. That does not mean its Islamabad branches are unregistered, but it does mean there is no like-for-like official comparison, so ask every Beaconhouse branch for its PEIRA filing. Our guides at /news/low-fee-schools-in-islamabad and /news/school-fees-in-islamabad explain how to read the register.
Supplies can add a lot to the bill at either network. In November 2025, Dawn reported that the Competition Commission of Pakistan had issued show-cause notices to 17 private school systems, naming Beaconhouse, Roots Millennium and Roots International among them. The commission alleged that the schools required parents to buy logo-branded notebooks, workbooks and uniforms from vendors the schools had authorised. It said its inquiry found study packs priced up to 280% above comparable items on the open market. These were allegations, and we found no final ruling in the reports we checked. TME's FAQ directs parents to its list of authorised uniform and book sellers. Whichever network you choose, ask for the full yearly cost of books, uniforms and kits before you commit.
The admission steps are similar, but TME publishes more detail. Its FAQ says Early Years places are offered first come, first served, for children aged 2 to 5, after an informal assessment, and both parents must attend the interview. For Grades 1 to 8, children sit papers of about 45 minutes in English, Urdu and Mathematics and/or Science, with a 70% pass mark, although a strong previous record can earn an exemption. A walk-in applicant meets the admission office, then an academic coordinator, sits the entry test, receives a fee bill and gets provisional confirmation once it is paid. Beaconhouse's online enquiry form says a school representative will call within two working days. Its undated test-and-interview page says parents are told the result whether or not the child passes, an interview follows a pass, and the head meets every family that comes for admission. Confirm the current steps and age cut-off with the branch.
Culture is hard to judge from a website, and the details you can check are mostly practical. TME's FAQ says its campuses run Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 2:00 for Early Years to Grade 2 and until 2:30 for older classes, with a 12:30 finish on Fridays. It also says classes have no more than 25 learners. TME's About page highlights Mandarin teaching through a Confucius Classroom, and German through the PASCH network and the Goethe-Institut. TME's FAQ does not describe a school-run transport service. It says it will share information on external transport services, and parents must give the school their driver's documents, including a CNIC copy, so the /pick-and-drop page is worth checking early. In the Beaconhouse pages we read, we found no network-wide statement on timings or class size, so ask the branch. For both networks, visit during a school day, watch a lesson change-over and ask parents at the gate.
SchoolNama's own records reflect the difference in size, and they are still incomplete. Our directory links 116 listings to Beaconhouse across all 15 launch cities, and another 42 have Beaconhouse-style names but are not yet linked. For Roots Millennium, 7 listings are linked, all in Islamabad, and 11 more carry the name, 10 in Islamabad and 1 in Rawalpindi. Several of those 18 are duplicates, and by name and address they cover about ten campuses. That means our records do not yet show the network's branches in the other nine launch cities where TME lists campuses. Only a few listings in either group carry a curriculum tag. Profiles such as /schools/roots-millennium-schools-one-world-campus-one-world-campus-islamabad and /schools/beaconhouse-newlands-islamabad-islamabad are a starting point. City pages such as /islamabad, /rawalpindi, /lahore and /karachi show alternatives nearby, /compare puts two shortlisted campuses side by side, and /tutors can help if a switch of curriculum leaves gaps.

Checklist before you decide
- ✓Confirm the exact network: Roots Millennium (TME), Roots School System, Roots International and Roots IVY are separate names, so check the prospectus and the fee bill.
- ✓List the branches of each network within a realistic commute, using each network's own campus finder, and note the classes each branch covers.
- ✓Ask which route the branch teaches for your child's year (Edexcel or Beaconhouse primary, IGCSE or O Level, Matric) and which board or exam body it enters students with.
- ✓Ask where your child would do A Level or FSc, and whether that means moving to another branch or to a Future World School or BCP campus.
- ✓If IB matters, check the campus's authorisation on the International Baccalaureate's own website, not just the brochure.
- ✓Get the written fee schedule before paying: admission, registration, security deposit, tuition, annual or resource charges, ICT and lab fees, exam fees, and how many months are billed at a time.
- ✓Ask whether fees are charged over the summer months, whether sibling discounts exist, and how much fees rose last year.
- ✓Ask for the full yearly cost of books, notebooks and uniforms, and whether you must buy them from named sellers.
- ✓In Islamabad, look the branch up on ICT-PEIRA's register and compare its latest filing with the bill you are given.
- ✓Check the admission test, pass mark and age cut-off for your child's class, and whether both parents must attend the interview.
- ✓Plan transport early (Roots Millennium's FAQ points to external services) and compare commute costs on /pick-and-drop.
- ✓Visit both shortlisted campuses on a school day, then compare them side by side on /compare.
Frequently asked questions
How is Roots Millennium different from Beaconhouse?
Roots Millennium (run by The Millennium Education) says it uses Edexcel for primary and Cambridge from lower secondary, calls its main Cambridge stage IGCSE, and runs the IB Middle Years Programme at one Islamabad campus. Beaconhouse teaches its own curriculum to Class VIII and then mostly O Level, and is far larger. Programmes and fees still vary branch by branch.
Is Roots Millennium the same as Roots School System or Roots International?
No. Roots Millennium's operator, The Millennium Education, says it grew out of the Roots School System founded in Rawalpindi in 1988, but the Roots School System runs its own website and campuses. Roots International Schools & Colleges and Roots IVY are separate names again. Check which one appears on the prospectus and fee bill.
Which is more expensive, Roots Millennium or Beaconhouse?
There is no reliable like-for-like answer. Neither publishes a class-wise fee table online that we found. In Islamabad, Roots Millennium's latest PEIRA filings put Grade I between Rs 23,300 and Rs 31,850 (2024-25 and 2025-26 filings), but the register does not state the period and we found no Beaconhouse entries. Ask each branch for its written schedule.
Do both offer Matric?
Both describe a Matric route, but check that your branch runs it. Beaconhouse describes a two-year Matric ending in the Class X board exam. Roots Millennium describes a three-year SSC course starting in Grade 8, and its Matric page names only four campuses that offer it. Ask the branch directly.
Do Roots Millennium or Beaconhouse offer IB?
Only at a few campuses. Roots Millennium says its One World Campus in E-11/4, Islamabad, is authorised for the IB Middle Years Programme. On Beaconhouse's finder, six branches carry an IB tag, all in Lahore, Karachi or Islamabad. Confirm any campus's status with the International Baccalaureate.
Where can my child do A Level?
Beaconhouse teaches A Level at its Beaconhouse College Programme branches. Roots Millennium's group lists eight A Level principals, five of them at Future World School & College branches. Its College Years page still mentions Cambridge Pre-U, which Cambridge has withdrawn (last exams June 2023, resits June 2024), so confirm what is actually taught and where.
Does Roots Millennium provide school transport?
Asked whether transport is provided, its FAQ says it will share information on external transport services, and parents must give the school their driver's documents, including a CNIC copy. You can compare pick-and-drop options on SchoolNama's /pick-and-drop page.
