Abbottabad's High-Fee Schools: Two Published Fee Schedules and What They Leave Out

Two Abbottabad schools publish a dated fee schedule, both with boarding. Here is what a year costs at each, what sits outside the headline fee, and why the usual KP fee rules may not cover them.

SchoolNama Editorial · 6 October 2026 · 9 min read

Short answer

Of the Abbottabad schools we checked on 6 October 2026, only two publish a dated fee schedule: Army Burn Hall College for Boys (from 1 July 2026, up to Rs 20,515 a month for day scholars or Rs 185,253 a quarter for boarders) and Abbottabad Public School (Rs 163,000 to Rs 185,000 a quarter, from April 2027). The other big names post no dated fee schedule, so we rank nobody.

How we researched this: On 6 October 2026 we opened the fee and admission pages of Abbottabad's best-known private, army-run and boarding schools, the KP Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) register for Abbottabad district, and PSRA's fee norms and notices. Only fees printed on a school's own site with a date or effective session are used; undated tables are mentioned with a note that they are undated and are not used in any cost calculation. Aggregator listings were not used.

Ask around Abbottabad which school costs the most and you will hear the same handful of names, usually with a figure attached that nobody can trace. We tried to pin those figures down. On 6 October 2026 we opened the official websites of the schools parents most often mention and kept only fees that the school itself prints with a date or session. Two schools passed that test. Both take boarders, and both sit outside the private-school register run by the province's regulator, which matters more than it first appears. This guide sets out what each charges, what the headline fee leaves out, and what to ask the schools that do not publish anything.

Army Burn Hall College for Boys, on Mansehra Road, posts a fee sheet headed as effective from 1 July 2026. Day scholars pay by the month, from Rs 14,154 in Prep to Class 2 up to Rs 20,515 in FSc and A Level. The sheet lists no boarding rate below Class 5. Boarders pay by the quarter, from Rs 158,514 for Classes 5 and 6 to Rs 172,269 for FSc and A Level, and day boarders pay between Rs 28,584 and Rs 33,169 a month. Every new student also pays Rs 51,200 in admission charges, made up of an admission fee, building fund and maintenance fund of Rs 16,200 each, Rs 1,600 for the college magazine, Rs 500 for the calendar and Rs 500 for the newsletter. Security, returned when the boy leaves, is Rs 50,000 for a day scholar, Rs 80,000 for a day boarder and Rs 150,000 for a boarder.

Abbottabad Public School (APS, not to be confused with the Army Public Schools), which opened in 1961 on a campus of more than 55 acres above the city on Mansehra Road, takes boys from Class 7 to Class 12. Its admissions page publishes a revised fee schedule effective from April 2027, which would likely apply to a boy joining through the December 2026 entry test. The quarterly fee on open merit is Rs 163,000 for Grades 7 to 10 and Rs 185,000 for Grades 11 and 12, and the school says this covers tuition, boarding, lodging, library, laboratory, hobbies, societies and computer fee. At admission it lists Rs 25,000 for admission, registration and processing, Rs 60,000 maintenance, Rs 30,000 for internal and external exams, a refundable security deposit of Rs 150,000, and Rs 80,000 against pocket money, uniform and stationery, used as consumed. Seats under the self-finance quota carry a one-time, non-refundable charge of Rs 600,000 in Class 7, Rs 500,000 in Class 8 and Rs 300,000 in Class 11.

Put on a full-year footing, the two schools land close together at the boarding end, though the figures apply to different years. At Burn Hall, four quarters of FSc or A Level boarding come to Rs 741,012. At APS, four quarters in Grades 7 to 10 come to Rs 652,000, and Rs 740,000 in Grades 11 and 12. The gap widens for a new student, because APS asks for Rs 345,000 at admission against Burn Hall's Rs 201,200 for a boarder, although the security deposit in both cases is refundable and APS's Rs 80,000 is a running account for the boy's own spending. Burn Hall is also a day school. Twelve monthly payments at the FSc and A Level day rate would total Rs 246,180, so ask whether all twelve months are billed.

Abbottabad Public School's admissions page and prospectus both say day scholars are admitted and placed in Rehman House, although the prospectus also describes the school as entirely residential. No day-scholar fee is printed anywhere we looked, so if you live in the city and want a day place, ask for its fee in writing before the test. Registration in the 2026-27 admission cycle costs Rs 5,000 (Rs 6,000 after the due date), forms are accepted until 30 November 2026 and the entry test is on 25 December 2026, for Classes 7 and 8 and the school's new Cambridge O Level and IGCSE pathway.

The girls' Burn Hall college at Gammi Adda puts fee tables online too, though we have not relied on them. None carries a date, the school and college tables are marked subject to revision, and two of them disagree: the school fee table lists boarders in Prep to Class 2 at Rs 54,287 a month, while the boarding page lists Prep-1 boarders at Rs 30,025 a month. Its college page is the only one we found in Abbottabad with separate civilian and army rates, Rs 20,053 against Rs 12,994 a month for FA and FSc. If you are considering the girls' college, ask which table applies to 2026-27 and whether your family qualifies for the army rate.

Several schools that parents place in the same bracket publish no fee at all. Beaconhouse's Abbottabad Campus in Cantt lists its programmes on its branch page but no fees. The City School's campus finder shows its Abbottabad branch on Main Supply Bazaar Road teaching from Class 3 up to O Level and Matric, with no fee attached. PIPS describes boarding at its boys' college and an O Level stream, but its campus pages and FAQ show no fee. Tameer-i-Wattan publishes its fee rules and payment deadlines but no amounts. Roots Millennium's Pine Campus, which the network said on a news page that gives no year had launched Cambridge A Levels, was marked BLOCKED on PSRA's Abbottabad register when we checked; we do not know why, so ask the school and PSRA before applying. For all of these, the only reliable fee is one the school gives you in writing.

What a headline fee leaves out is often where the real difference lies. At Burn Hall, the college runs a seven-bed hospital, but sons of serving or retired armed forces personnel get free treatment at the CMH while other families pay for treatment, medicine and tests as per the rules in force. At APS, a 12-bed hospital, inoculations and an ambulance are described as part of school life, and the school keeps a minimum pocket-money credit of Rs 10,000 for each boy. Tameer-i-Wattan states that its boarding charges exclude clothing, travel, medicines, dry cleaning, haircuts, laundry, test books, stationery, heating and exam fees, and that boarders pay winter camp charges. None of the schedules above itemises Cambridge entry fees, and APS describes its Rs 30,000 exam charge only as covering internal and external exams, so ask what it includes. Ask every school for a list of what is excluded, not only what is included.

Regulation is where Abbottabad differs from most cities. PSRA's register for Abbottabad district held 784 entries when we checked on 6 October 2026, including Beaconhouse, The City School, PIPS, Tameer-i-Wattan and the Upstream School System, but neither Burn Hall college nor Abbottabad Public School appears in it. Burn Hall's own history says it was handed over to the Pakistan Army in 1977, and APS says it was transferred to the provincial government under a 1971 ordinance, with a board of governors. Both charge an admission fee, which PSRA has repeatedly said registered private schools may not do. We could not establish which body approves fee increases at these two schools, so ask each one directly.

For schools that are on the register, PSRA's rules give parents real leverage. Under its norms of 12 March 2020, fees may go up by no more than 10 percent a year and only before the session begins, the year's fee structure has to be posted outside the school, and every child after the first gets at least 20 percent off. The Northern Post reported in March 2025 that PSRA had reiterated that admission, annual and capitation fees may not be charged under any name, citing a Peshawar High Court judgment of December 2021. A PSRA letter dated 29 May 2025 allows tuition to be billed for vacation months, provided it is collected at the close of each month rather than upfront or in one sum. We found nothing on PSRA's notifications page up to 6 October 2026 that changes these rules, but check the page before you sign.

The same 2020 norms also describe what a top-fee private school is supposed to provide, which makes a useful checklist for any premium campus. Schools whose fee at their highest class is above Rs 10,000 fall in PSRA's Categories 5 to 7. Each of those must keep classes to no more than 25 students with a 25-to-one student-teacher ratio, air-conditioned classrooms with smart boards or projectors, a computer lab of at least 30 machines, a sports coach in addition to a physical instructor, a medical officer for emergencies, one child psychologist for every 300 students with individual counselling records open to parents, and CCTV in every classroom. Category 7, above Rs 20,000, adds a multimedia resource room. These thresholds are six years old and say nothing about teaching quality, but if a school charges at that level you are entitled to ask which category it is registered in and to see the facilities that come with it.

None of this tells you that the costliest school is the right one. A boarding place buys supervision, meals and a full day, and for some families in remote areas that is the point; for a child who lives ten minutes from a good day school, it may buy little that matters. Look instead at class size, the board or Cambridge route your child will follow, what the school's results look like for a whole cohort rather than its toppers, and the total you will pay over the years your child will be there. Of SchoolNama's 46 Abbottabad listings, not one has a fee we have verified. Basic profiles exist for Burn Hall (/schools/army-burn-hall-college-abbottabad), Beaconhouse (/schools/beaconhouse-abbottabad-campus-abbottabad), the PIPS boys' college (/schools/pips-boys-campus-abbottabad) and Tameer-i-Wattan (/schools/tameer-i-wattan-public-school-and-boys-college-abbottabad); /abbottabad and /abbottabad/cantt gather the rest. No Abbottabad van service is listed on /pick-and-drop yet, so the school run is something to settle with each day school. Once you have written schedules from two or three schools, /compare lets you set their profiles side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Which schools are in Abbottabad's premium fee band?

Only two schools we checked publish a dated schedule: Army Burn Hall College for Boys (from 1 July 2026) and Abbottabad Public School (from April 2027). Burn Hall's current sheet charges boarders Rs 171,105 to 185,253 a quarter; Abbottabad Public School's schedule from April 2027 is Rs 163,000 to 185,000 a quarter. Beaconhouse, The City School, PIPS, Tameer-i-Wattan and Roots Millennium publish no fees online, so we cannot place them.

What does the fee cover at Burn Hall and Abbottabad Public School?

Abbottabad Public School says its quarterly fee covers tuition, boarding, lodging, library, laboratory, hobbies, societies and computer fee. Burn Hall's sheet gives monthly, quarterly and day-boarder rates but does not list inclusions. Tameer-i-Wattan says its boarding charges include tuition.

Which extra charges come on top?

Admission charges (Rs 51,200 at Burn Hall, Rs 115,000 at Abbottabad Public School under its April 2027 schedule), a refundable security deposit, that school's pocket-money and uniform account of Rs 80,000, medical costs at Burn Hall for families not entitled to CMH treatment, and Cambridge entry fees, which no schedule itemises. Self-finance seats at Abbottabad Public School carry a one-time Rs 300,000 to 600,000 extra.

What differentiates premium campuses in Abbottabad?

Mainly boarding and supervision, on-site medical care, campus size and a Cambridge route alongside Matric and FSc. PSRA's norms also expect registered schools whose fee at their highest class is above Rs 10,000 to cap sections at 25 students, air-condition classrooms and appoint a medical officer and child psychologists.

Do KP's fee rules apply to Burn Hall and Abbottabad Public School?

Neither appeared on PSRA's Abbottabad register on 6 October 2026, and both charge admission fees that PSRA bars for registered private schools. We could not confirm which body approves their fee increases, so ask each school.

Is a premium fee worth it for every child?

No. Boarding pays off when a family needs supervision or lives far from a good school. For a child near a solid day school, compare class sizes, results across the whole cohort and the full multi-year cost before paying more.
