LGS vs Beaconhouse: O Levels, Fees, Culture and Campus Choice
Beaconhouse runs one national campus finder; Lahore Grammar School is split into clusters with separate websites, rules and fee bills. We read both groups' own pages, Islamabad's fee register and a credit rating report to show what really differs and what to ask before you pay.
Short answer
No single answer fits every family: Beaconhouse keeps its Pakistani campuses on one finder and uses its own syllabus through Class VIII, after which most pupils take O Level. Lahore Grammar School is one company that a 2023 credit rating report describes as five semi-autonomous clusters, so programmes, gender mix and fees change with the branch. Choose a reachable campus by its exam route, written fees and commute.
How we researched this: Our research on 2 October 2026 took in beaconhouse.net and its campus finder, the websites of several LGS clusters and campuses, ICT-PEIRA's online fee register for Islamabad, a November 2023 VIS Credit Rating report on Lahore Grammar School (Private) Limited, and reports in Dawn and ProPakistani. A script tallied our own directory records under both names. No ranking is given, and SchoolNama's placeholder fee data and sample reviews played no part.
Comparing LGS with Beaconhouse is harder than it looks, because the two are organised differently. Beaconhouse presents itself as a single network, and its website has one campus finder for its Pakistani branches. Lahore Grammar School does not. According to a November 2023 report by VIS Credit Rating Company, Lahore Grammar School (Private) Limited is owned in equal shares by eight people and is divided into five clusters, each led by a working director. The report says each cluster has 'greater autonomy and independence' over its cash flows and capital spending. That shows up online. The site at lgs.edu.pk handles general inquiries only for 55 Main, 30 Main and 31 FCC in Gulberg. The JT & OPF cluster runs lgsjt.edu.pk and says it has eight campuses in Johar Town and one in Sargodha. Another cluster, led by Mrs Nighat Ali, runs lahoregrammar.school, which lists Mainstream branches such as LGS 1A1 and LGS Paragon, Landmark branches, and campuses outside Lahore. So when someone says 'LGS fees' or 'LGS rules', ask which cluster and which campus they mean.
Both groups started in Lahore in the 1970s. Beaconhouse traces itself to Les Anges Montessori Academy, which it says opened in November 1975 with 19 toddlers; its website now claims more than 400,000 pupils in six countries. LGS's 55 Main site says a group of women set up Lahore Grammar School as a girls' school in 1979, and the Johar Town cluster's site dates the first boys' branch to 1992. Published size figures for LGS do not agree with each other. The VIS report counted over 90 campuses in 15 cities and noted that the school's presence was largely Lahore based, while an undated page on the LGS Gulberg network's site mentions 21 branches in Lahore and 50 nationwide, and counters on that same page show 87 campuses in 38 cities. We could not find a single LGS campus list covering every cluster, so we have not attempted an LGS campus count.
Beaconhouse's finder, read on 2 October 2026, returned 149 entries across the 15 cities SchoolNama currently covers, and none of those cities was missing. Twenty-two carry the finder's College Programme label, which marks A Level sections. Karachi had 41 entries, Lahore 36, Islamabad 20 and Rawalpindi 11. Some addresses appear more than once; Liberty Campus and BCP Liberty Campus, for instance, share one address in Gulberg III, so the total is higher than the number of separate sites. For LGS, the best we can do is the city list on lahoregrammar.school. Besides Lahore, it names Karachi, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Sargodha among our launch cities, along with several smaller cities. It does not name Hyderabad, Abbottabad, Bahawalpur or Sukkur. Outside Lahore, then, check that an LGS branch actually exists near you before building a plan around it.
The curricula differ most in the early and middle years. Until Class VIII, Beaconhouse teaches a curriculum it designed itself; most of its pupils then move to Cambridge O Level, according to its website. Its O Level page puts the usual load at seven to ten subjects taken over two or three years, and says only a few Beaconhouse schools offer IGCSE. Matric there lasts two years and ends with the Class X paper set by a federal or provincial board, while A Level is taught in its College Programme. LGS has no single curriculum statement covering every cluster. The 55 Main site says it is affiliated with Cambridge for O and A Level, that students sit O Level at the end of Class 11, and that it has taught A Level since 1995. The lahoregrammar.school site says LGS offers Matric as well as O and A Level to boys and girls. The VIS report lists O Level, A Level and Matric for the Mainstream branches, and Matric and O Level for the cheaper Landmark branches. LGS's DHA Karachi campus describes its curriculum as aligned with the UK National Curriculum and runs from playgroup to O Level.
Whether boys and girls study together also depends on the campus. 55 Main in Gulberg states plainly that it is an all-girls campus, including at A Level. The Johar Town cluster runs separate junior schools for girls and boys and teaches IGCSE to boys only at JT International Senior, while its IB Diploma classes for Classes 11 and 12 admit both. LGS's DHA Karachi campus calls itself co-educational. Beaconhouse also has single-sex branches: its finder lists separate boys' and girls' campuses in Johar Town and at Canal Side in Lahore, for example. Ask any branch you shortlist how its senior classes are arranged.
Both groups offer the International Baccalaureate at only a few campuses. In Lahore, LGS International in DHA Phase 8 describes itself as an IB continuum school established in 2014. LGS Defence Phase V says on its homepage that it is an authorised IB World School for the Diploma Programme, and the Johar Town cluster lists an IB Primary Years Programme candidate school as well as its Diploma classes. In Islamabad, PEIRA's register includes a 'Lahore Grammar School (International Baccalaurete Campus)' at the H-8/1 address, with fees filed up to Grade V. On Beaconhouse's side, six finder entries carry an IB tag. The Diploma is tagged at PECHS (Karachi), BCP IBDP Margalla and Newlands (Islamabad) and TNS Defence (Lahore); TNS Gulberg (Lahore) is tagged for the Primary and Middle Years programmes, and Clifton (Karachi) for the Primary Years only. Beaconhouse's About page adds that Beaconhouse-Newlands in Multan became the city's first IB school authorised for the Primary Years Programme, although the finder gives that branch no IB tag. These are the schools' own labels. Check a campus's current status on the IB's own website before paying for it. Weighing IB against Cambridge more broadly is the subject of /news/ib-vs-cambridge-pakistan.
On fees, the two groups publish very different amounts of information. beaconhouse.net carries no fee table that we could find. Its admission-criteria page says a fee voucher is produced once the child has cleared the test and interview, and its parents' charter promises timely and transparent communication about financial requirements. Some LGS sites publish far more. LGS International lists its 2025-26 fees: Rs 58,810 a month from playgroup to KG, rising to Rs 64,035 for Grades 1 to 5 and Rs 84,945 in the second Diploma year, plus a Rs 100,000 admission fee, an Rs 85,000 refundable security deposit and a registration fee of Rs 15,000 (Rs 20,000 for Diploma students). The table also has a line for two months' fees, so ask what your first bill will include and how often bills arrive after that. That was still the table on the site on 2 October 2026, although the 2026-27 session has started, so ask for the current schedule. At 55 Main, the 2026-27 registration bill is Rs 5,000 and non-refundable. Its parents' handbook says the yearly fee is spread over twelve monthly payments, that the school keeps the right to raise fees each July in line with government directives, and that the school uses a tiered fee structure.
Islamabad is the only place where we could see fees an LGS campus had filed with a regulator. ICT-PEIRA's online register lists Lahore Grammar School at Plot 86, Faiz Ahmed Faiz Road, H-8/1. For 2026-27 it filed Rs 40,477 for Grades I to VI, Rs 42,268 for Grades IX to XI and Rs 56,748 for A Level, with a Rs 50,000 admission fee and a Rs 3,500 registration fee. Each class fee is almost exactly 10% above the 2025-26 filing; Grade I, for example, rose from Rs 36,797. The IB campus at the same address filed Rs 57,422 for Grades I to V in 2026-27. The register does not say whether these are monthly amounts, and PEIRA notes that each school is responsible for the accuracy of what it files. When we searched the register for 'Beaconhouse', 'Beacon House' and 'BSS', none of the results was a Beaconhouse branch. That does not prove its Islamabad campuses are unregistered, but there is no official Islamabad figure to set against LGS, so ask any Beaconhouse branch for its PEIRA filing. Our Islamabad cost guide, /news/school-fees-in-islamabad, walks through each column of the register, from class fees to the one-time admission and registration charges.
For a rough national picture of LGS pricing, the only figures we found are nearly three years old (November 2023). The November 2023 VIS report put the Mainstream branches at Rs 30,000 to 36,000 a month, Landmark at Rs 14,000 to 16,000 and the IB programme at Rs 45,000 to 60,000. It also attributed the company's revenue growth partly to steady fee increases. The Islamabad filings above show how far fees have moved since then, so treat the 2023 bands as history, not a quote. We found no comparable published band for Beaconhouse.
Expect extra costs beyond tuition at either school, and check the rules where you live. Both groups were on a list of 17 school systems that received show-cause notices from the Competition Commission of Pakistan, Dawn reported in November 2025. The commission alleged that, across the 17 systems, parents were obliged to buy school-logo exercise books, workbooks and uniforms only from outlets the schools approved. On the commission's figures, many study packs sold this way cost as much as 280% more than equivalent open-market products. A show-cause notice asks a school to answer the charges and is not a verdict; we found no report of a final CCP order. Dawn reported in August 2026 that Beaconhouse parents had complained to Sindh's provincial ombudsman about yearly fee rises, a uniform change roughly every two years and books sold only through designated vendors. The ombudsman ordered the director general of private schools to report back, and we found no published outcome. In Lahore, ProPakistani reported in July 2025 on a District Education Authority notice that limited yearly fee rises to 5% and barred schools from forcing parents to buy from particular vendors. We could not confirm whether that notice still governs the 2026-27 session, so check with your district education office. One LGS campus's own rules point the other way on books: the 55 Main handbook says textbooks for Classes 8 to 11 can be bought from any bookshop.
Admission calendars matter too, and several 2026 deadlines have already passed. 55 Main scheduled its 2026-27 admission tests for 10 April, 8 May and 7 August 2026, and its A Level registration closed on 31 July 2026, so families applying now should ask whether any places remain or plan for the 2027-28 cycle. Its admissions page says passing the tests does not guarantee a seat, because places are limited and some applicants are put on a waiting list. Beaconhouse's published procedure runs from registration to a test and interview at the branch and then a fee voucher. Neither group publishes one national admission date, so ask each campus for its next test date and whether it keeps a waiting list.
Culture is hard to measure from outside, so judge it on a visit rather than from a brand name. Here is what each group says about itself. 55 Main stresses the humanities and social sciences, the performing arts, regional languages and community service. Students may not bring phones unless a parent sends a note and the device is left with the office; anyone caught with one is fined Rs 1,000 the first time and Rs 5,000 the second. Beaconhouse describes its aim as quality education of an international standard, and its charter sets out what parents can expect from a branch and what the branch expects from them. Both are big organisations, and the head, teachers and class sizes at the campus you choose will shape your child's experience more than the logo. Ask to sit in on a lesson, meet the section head, and ask how the school deals with bullying and with children who fall behind. If your child needs extra support at either school, SchoolNama lists tutors at /tutors.
The way our directory files the two groups mirrors this difference. Our directory links 116 listings in the launch cities to the Beaconhouse network, and another 42 carry the Beaconhouse name without being linked yet, at least one of them a regional office. We have no LGS network page. Nineteen listings carry the LGS or Lahore Grammar School name: nine in Lahore, four in Islamabad, two each in Karachi and Faisalabad, and one each in Multan and Gujranwala. Some of these are duplicates, such as three Islamabad entries at the same H-8/1 address. None of this measures either group's size. Beaconhouse is set against two other networks at /news/beaconhouse-vs-city-school and /news/roots-millennium-vs-beaconhouse, which use the same Beaconhouse finder. Profiles such as /schools/lgs-international-lahore, /schools/lahore-grammar-school-islamabad, /schools/beaconhouse-tns-defence-lahore and /schools/beaconhouse-bcp-gulberg-campus-lahore are a starting point, and /lahore lists other schools in the city where both groups were founded.
To decide, work through the choices in order. First pick the exam route your child is likely to need, whether Matric, O Level, IGCSE or IB, because that rules out many campuses on both sides. Then decide whether you want single-sex or mixed classes, and drop the branches that do not match. Then list the branches of each group within a commute your child can manage every day, and get a written fee schedule from each one, including admission, security, registration, monthly tuition, annual charges and exam fees. Use /compare to set your two finalists against each other, and work out the daily transport bill on /pick-and-drop before any money changes hands. If the campus fits, the brand matters much less.

Checklist before you decide
- ✓Find out which LGS cluster runs the campus you are considering, and use that cluster's own website and rules, not another branch's.
- ✓Decide on the exam route first (Matric, O Level, IGCSE or IB) and confirm the campus teaches it for your child's year and continues to A Level or the IB Diploma.
- ✓Ask whether the campus is single-sex or mixed at each stage, especially from Class 9 onwards.
- ✓Get the full written fee schedule for 2026-27: admission, registration, security deposit, monthly tuition, annual charges and exam fees, and ask how many months each bill covers.
- ✓Ask how much fees went up last July and what the school expects next year.
- ✓For a campus in Islamabad, type its name into the ICT-PEIRA register; if no record appears, ask the school to show its registration and the fee list it submitted.
- ✓Ask whether books, notebooks and uniforms must come from the school or a named vendor, and whether a younger child can reuse an older sibling's books.
- ✓Check the next admission test date and whether the campus keeps a waiting list, since several 2026-27 dates have passed.
- ✓Want IB? Look the campus up in the International Baccalaureate's own school search and confirm which programme it is authorised for.
- ✓Visit both shortlisted campuses, compare them on /compare and price the daily commute on /pick-and-drop.
Frequently asked questions
Is LGS better than Beaconhouse?
There is no overall winner. Both offer Cambridge O and A Level and Matric, and both run IB at a few campuses, but programmes, class mix and fees vary from branch to branch, and LGS's clusters run partly independently. Line up the branches within reach and weigh their written fees, exam routes and travel time.
Is Lahore Grammar School one school system?
It is one company, Lahore Grammar School (Private) Limited, but a 2023 VIS Credit Rating report says it is divided into five clusters, each run by a working director with its own control over cash flow and spending. Clusters run separate websites with different admission rules and fee arrangements, and one cluster's website also lists an LGS franchise office. Check which cluster runs the branch you are looking at.
Which is more expensive, LGS or Beaconhouse?
We cannot say. We found no published Beaconhouse fee schedule, and no national fee list for either group. Some LGS figures are public: LGS International's 2025-26 table runs from Rs 58,810 to Rs 84,945 a month, and the Islamabad H-8 campus filed Rs 40,477 for Grade I for 2026-27 with PEIRA, without saying whether that is monthly. Get the fee sheet in writing from every branch you shortlist.
Do LGS and Beaconhouse offer Matric?
Both say they do. Beaconhouse's Matric runs for two years and finishes with the board exam at the end of Class X. LGS's websites and a 2023 credit rating report list Matric alongside O and A Level, and Matric with O Level at its Landmark branches. Not every campus runs every route, so confirm with the branch.
Are LGS campuses single-sex?
Some are. 55 Main in Gulberg is an all-girls campus, and the Johar Town cluster runs separate girls' and boys' schools, with IGCSE for boys only at JT International Senior and a mixed IB Diploma. LGS's DHA Karachi campus says it is co-educational. Ask each campus how classes are arranged at each stage.
Can I still apply to LGS 55 Main for 2026-27?
Its 2026-27 admission tests were scheduled for 10 April, 8 May and 7 August 2026, and A Level registration closed on 31 July 2026. Contact the school to ask about any remaining places and the dates for 2027-28.
Why does SchoolNama list fewer LGS campuses than LGS says it has?
Our directory has 19 listings with the LGS or Lahore Grammar School name, some of them duplicates, and no LGS network page yet. We found no single LGS campus finder covering all its clusters. These numbers track our own data entry so far; they say nothing about which group is bigger.
