Best O Level Schools in Lahore (2026): Fees, CAIE Options and What Parents Should Actually Compare

Every August and September, Lahore parents ask the same question: which school is best for O Levels? It is a fair question, but a misleading one. Cambridge International (formerly Cambridge Assessment International Education, and still often called CAIE) does not publish school-by-school pass rates for Pakistan, and the individual campuses that do share results release them selectively. That is why any 'top ten' list you find online is a mix of marketing, brand memory and paid placements, and why SchoolNama does not publish a numerical ranking of Lahore's O Level schools.

What we can do, honestly, is help you narrow the field. Lahore's Cambridge landscape splits into a few recognizable categories. There are the long-established large networks, where the O Level brand recognition is nationwide and campuses cover most postcodes. Beaconhouse alone has around 16 Lahore campuses tagged for O Level in SchoolNama's directory, including Beaconhouse TNS Gulberg, Beaconhouse Liberty Campus, Beaconhouse Walton, Beaconhouse Cantt Branch, and the Beaconhouse LMA cluster in Gulberg and Model Town. The City School and Lahore Grammar School (LGS) run similarly large multi-campus footprints, and LACAS operates well-known senior campuses in Gulberg, Johar Town and on Burki Road.

Then there are the single-brand Cambridge specialists and community favourites. Aitchison College, a boys-only day-and-boarding school on The Mall, has been a Cambridge examination centre since 1933 and is the only school in Pakistan with that distinction, per its own senior-school page. Boys in Years 10 and 11 opt for either the national stream or Cambridge O Levels (the school describes this as its international stream), and Years 12 and 13 then study AS and A2. Roots International has campuses at Askari and Sevenoaks in Lahore, on top of its national network, and pushes a Cambridge O Level plus Federal Board (HSSC) pathway. There are also smaller Cambridge-branded operations such as Cambridge Girls College and Garrison Academy for Cambridge Studies, which target very specific niches.

A third category, easy to overlook, is the girls' campus within a bigger network. Beaconhouse 78-A/I Township is one of the network's dedicated girls' branches. LGS itself has separate boys' and girls' campuses in Johar Town, and several Convent and Sacred Heart schools continue to run senior programmes. If your daughter would do better in a single-sex environment, this category is where the real options are, not the generic ranking lists.

Fees in Lahore vary far more than parents assume, and the numbers online are almost always out of date. Independent aggregators quoted Lahore O Level monthly tuition for 2026 anywhere from around PKR 20,000 at the affordable end of large networks to PKR 60,000-plus at premium senior campuses of LGS, Beaconhouse Defence, LACAS Gulberg and similar, with Aitchison quoted in the PKR 812,000 to PKR 1,125,600 annual band. We are attributing these ranges to the aggregators because we could not verify them from the schools' own current fee sheets on publish day. Treat these as ballpark bands only, and request the admission office's stamped fee schedule before you commit. Cambridge exam entry fees, typically a few tens of thousands of rupees per subject, are almost always billed on top of tuition and are paid to the British Council Pakistan.

For subjects, Cambridge International itself allows over 40 O Level and IGCSE subjects, but individual Lahore schools only offer the ones they have qualified faculty for. Every Pakistani-national student in Lahore is expected to take five compulsory subjects for IBCC Matric equivalence: English (First Language or Second Language, depending on the school's registration), Mathematics, Urdu, Pakistan Studies and Islamiyat. On top of these, most students pick three electives, commonly Physics, Chemistry and Biology for a science pathway, or Accounting, Business Studies and Economics for a commerce pathway. Roots International's public subject list, for example, offers Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Commerce, Global Perspectives, Art and Design, Environmental Management and Sociology as electives. Confirm the specific subject codes your target school is registering; a school that used to offer Combined Science, for instance, may not be running it this session.

About results: be careful how you read them. A school's own website might advertise 'top of Pakistan' distinctions, but Cambridge's world-topper announcements cover individual students, not schools. Ask the admissions office for grade distributions across their last cohort, not just the outliers. If they show you a headline figure like 'we get 90 percent As', ask how many students that covers, whether it counts A* only or A* and A together, and whether it is subject-weighted. Any school that will not answer these questions in writing is telling you something.

IBCC equivalence is not optional and it catches many families late. Under the Inter Boards Coordination Commission rules currently published on their own site and summarized by tuition providers, an O Level student needs eight subjects (including the five compulsory subjects with at least an E grade) for Matric equivalence. IBCC then converts a candidate's best eight subject scores using the formula (sum of eight subject marks divided by 800) multiplied by 1050 to produce a Matric-equivalent total. If your child is aiming for a Pakistani public-sector university, medical college, engineering university or a government job later, they need this certificate. Plan the subject list at Grade 9 with the equivalence in mind, not at the end of O2.

Commute matters more than parents like to admit. In Lahore rush-hour traffic, a 40-minute pickup in Model Town and a 40-minute drop in Johar Town become an hour and a half each way, which for an O Level student translates directly into lost study time. If your household is in DHA, look at LGS Phase 5, Beaconhouse Defence, LACAS Burki, TNS Beaconhouse Defence and the Beaconhouse Askari campuses. In Gulberg and central Lahore, LGS 55 Main, Beaconhouse TNS Gulberg, LACAS Gulberg and Aitchison are all inside a short radius. In Johar Town and Model Town, LGS Johar Town, LACAS Johar Town, LGS Landmark and the Beaconhouse LMA campuses are the practical options.
