Best Matric Schools in Abbottabad (2026): Board Results, Which Board Each School Uses & Parent Checklist
BISE Abbottabad does not publish school-by-school results. This guide sets out what the 2026 Class 10 result does show, which Abbottabad schools sit the Federal Board instead, how to check a private school's registration, and what to ask about fees.
Short answer
No public data ranks Abbottabad's Matric schools, because BISE Abbottabad does not publish results school by school. What parents can compare for any school: whether it is on BISE Abbottabad's or the Federal Board's affiliated list, whether a private campus is active on KP's PSRA register, the school's own Science and Arts Class 10 results, and a written fee schedule. The 2026 Class 10 pass rate was about 80%.
How we researched this: On 30 September 2026 we read BISE Abbottabad's website, including its about page, results pages and SSC affiliated-schools list, downloaded FBISE's affiliated-institutes list and KP PSRA's register for Abbottabad district, and counted the entries ourselves with a script. Result figures come from The Express Tribune, The News, 24 News and Dawn. SchoolNama figures were counted from our Abbottabad listings. We did not rank schools.
Searches for the best Matric schools in Abbottabad usually lead to lists of familiar names with no stated method. This guide works from official documents instead: the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Abbottabad's own list of affiliated schools, the Federal Board's list, the provincial register of private schools, and newspaper reports of the 2026 Class 10 result. It also says plainly what cannot yet be compared school by school. SchoolNama's Abbottabad city page, at /abbottabad, lists the campuses we hold.
Start with the board's limits. We found no institution-wise result file on BISE Abbottabad's website. Its results pages let a student look up a result by roll number, and the latest-results page carries no 2026 Class 10 gazette, position-holder list or school-level statistics. So there is no official public table of how many candidates each Abbottabad school entered or how many passed. The board also covers much more than the city: its about page lists five districts, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram and Kohistan. A board-wide pass rate is not an Abbottabad-city result.
The headline Class 10 pass rate was the same as the year before. The Class 10 (SSC Annual-I) result was announced on 4 August 2026. The News reported 57,952 passes from 72,677 candidates. The Express Tribune put the Class 10 pass rate at 80% and Class 9 at 64.45%, and 24 News gave the same 80% figure for the Matric examinations. Dawn reported the same 80% figure for Class 10 in 2025. The published totals differ slightly: 24 News gives 72,364 candidates, and adding up the Tribune's group figures in the table below gives 72,678 candidates and 57,955 passes. None of the reports explains the differences.
The group split matters more to a family than the headline. Adding up the Tribune's Class 10 figures, 84.25% of Science candidates passed against 66.67% in Arts, and about a quarter of all candidates sat Arts. Within Science, boys passed at 85.94% and girls at 81.12%. In Arts, boys passed at 71.10% and girls at 63.65%. A school's overall result therefore depends heavily on which group its students take, so ask for the Science and Arts results separately.
Position holders tell you about the top few students, not a whole school. According to The News and the Tribune, all three Science Group places in 2026 went to girls at Tameer-i-Wattan schools: two at its Mansehra campus and one at its Abbottabad school and college, with 1,167, 1,163 and 1,160 marks out of 1,200. All three Arts Group places went to girls at government schools in Haripur district, led by Government Girls High School Baldher with 1,131 marks; the two papers name the other two schools slightly differently. We have not repeated students' names.
The board's own list is the best way to confirm a school enters Matric candidates with BISE Abbottabad. On 30 September 2026 its SSC schools page held 2,701 entries board-wide, each with a code and a school type the board assigns: 1,045 Private Male, 988 Private Female, 436 Govt Male and 232 Govt Female. Most private schools appear twice, once for boys and once for girls, so entries are not the same as schools.
We counted 866 entries with Abbottabad or ATD in the name, and at least 207 of those also name a locality other than the city centre, such as Havelian, Nawanshehr, Lora or Birote. Some entries in the district do not name it at all, so the true district figure is higher. The board's type labels are not always consistent with the names: we found 33 entries board-wide where the name says one sex and the label says the other.
A second board matters in Abbottabad. Federal Board (FBISE) SSC is Matric too, just set and marked by a different board. On FBISE's affiliated list we counted 25 institutions with Abbottabad-district addresses, including Havelian and POF Havelian Cantt, that are affiliated at SSC level (one more entry names both Abbottabad and Mansehra, and we left it out). They include Army Burn Hall College for Boys and Army Burn Hall College for Girls, three Army Public School entries (FF Centre, PMA Kakul and COD Havelian), eight F.G. schools, Fauji Foundation Model School, Cantt Public Girls School and College, and private schools such as Beaconhouse's campus near the DIG office, The City School's Abbottabad campus, two Roots campuses, two branches of The Educators and Modernage. Students at these schools may sit FBISE papers, so they are not necessarily in the BISE Abbottabad figures above.
Some schools appear on both lists. Modernage Public School and College has boys' and girls' entries on BISE Abbottabad's list and an entry on FBISE's list, and an Army Public School and College, Abbottabad, has boys' and girls' entries on BISE's list alongside the FF Centre campus on FBISE's. Being affiliated with both does not tell you which board your child's Class 10 group will sit, so ask the school directly. The table below shows where several well-known Abbottabad names appear.
For private schools, the check that matters most is registration. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Private Schools Regulatory Authority (PSRA) publishes a register by district. On 30 September 2026 its Abbottabad list had 782 entries: 249 high schools, 162 higher secondary schools, 247 middle schools and 124 primary schools. Of the 411 high and higher secondary entries, 402 were marked active, 8 blocked and 1 suspended. Chains register campuses separately; Tameer-i-Wattan alone has seven entries. The register gives level, registration number and status, not board, gender or fees, so note the number for the exact campus you visit. Army Burn Hall College does not appear on it under that name.
Government schools are run by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, which reports 34,784 government schools across the province and links to district education offices and its annual school census. BISE Abbottabad's list shows government high schools in the city with separate boys' and girls' entries, for example Govt High School No. 1 and No. 3 (both labelled Govt Male by the board) and Govt Girls High School No. 2 and Govt Girls Comprehensive Higher Secondary School (both Govt Female). For a government school the questions are the same: which groups it teaches in Classes 9 and 10, and how many students it entered last year.
SchoolNama's own Abbottabad data cannot do this filtering for you yet, and we would rather say so. We hold 46 Abbottabad listings, all basic profiles, and 32 have no curriculum recorded. The 14 tagged Matric are all marked public, but six of them are degree, postgraduate, technology or management-sciences colleges and one is a middle school, and we did not find any of those seven on BISE Abbottabad's SSC schools list. Several of our gender labels also disagree with the board: we list Govt High School No. 1, No. 3 and Dhamtour as co-ed, while the board lists them as boys' entries, with separate girls' schools in Dhamtour. We list Girls Comprehensive Higher Secondary School as private; the board lists it as a government school. Treat our tags as a starting point and the boards' lists as the evidence.
Fees are where the evidence is thinnest. SchoolNama holds no fee record for any Abbottabad listing. Of the schools we checked, Army Burn Hall College for Boys publishes a full fee structure with effect from 1 July 2026: for Classes 9 and 10 it is Rs 17,838 a month for day scholars, Rs 32,004 a month for day boarders and Rs 177,222 a quarter for boarders, plus one-off admission charges of Rs 51,200 and a refundable security of Rs 50,000 for day scholars. The college is affiliated with FBISE, and the sheet does not mention board exam fees. Tameer-i-Wattan's fee page publishes payment rules rather than amounts: day scholars pay monthly, before the 5th, while boarders pay quarterly in advance, with 10 February, 10 May, 10 August and 10 November as the last dates without a fine. The page says fees are subject to revision with a 10% annual increment under PSRA rules. For any other school, ask for a written first-year cost.
Marks matter less than several other things. Board fit comes first: an FBISE cantonment school and a BISE Abbottabad city school prepare students for different papers and timetables. The Science or Arts choice matters too; in 2026 the gap between the two groups was about 18 points. Many Abbottabad schools register boys' and girls' wings separately, so check how Classes 9 and 10 are organised at the campus you visit, whether the school continues to FSc or ICS, and whether it takes boarders.
Commute is the last check and often the deciding one. SchoolNama does not yet list any pick-and-drop providers or tutors in Abbottabad, so /pick-and-drop and /tutors will not help here for now; ask each school about its own vans and try the journey at school time. If you are weighing Matric against Cambridge, our Abbottabad O Level guide at /news/best-o-level-schools-in-abbottabad and our comparison at /news/o-levels-vs-matric-in-pakistan set out the trade-offs. Once you have two or three candidates, /compare lines up what we hold for each listing. Confirm the board, the Class 10 result and the fees with each school.

Checklist before you decide
- ✓Ask which board the school's Class 10 students sit, BISE Abbottabad or FBISE, and find the school on that board's affiliated list.
- ✓If the school appears on both lists, ask which board your child's group will actually sit.
- ✓For a private school, note the PSRA registration number of the exact campus you are visiting and check that the register shows it as active.
- ✓Ask how many students the school entered for Class 10 last year and how many passed, separately for Science and Arts; BISE Abbottabad does not publish this school by school.
- ✓Ask how many students started Class 9 and how many sat Class 10 under the school's name rather than as private candidates.
- ✓Check whether the campus teaches both Science and Arts, and which group your child would be placed in.
- ✓Confirm whether boys and girls are taught in separate wings for Classes 9 and 10, and which wing enters the board exam.
- ✓Get a written first-year cost: monthly or quarterly tuition, admission charges, security deposit, annual increases, and board registration and exam fees.
- ✓Ask about sibling discounts, merit scholarships and need-based concessions.
- ✓Ask whether the school continues to FSc or ICS, and whether it offers boarding.
- ✓Try the commute at school time, and ask whether the school runs its own vans.
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best Matric school in Abbottabad?
No published evidence supports naming one. BISE Abbottabad does not post school-by-school results, and position holders show only the top few students. Shortlist schools whose board, registration, full Class 10 result and fees you can check, and choose on fit.
What was the BISE Abbottabad Matric pass rate in 2026?
In the Annual-I 2026 exam, announced on 4 August 2026, The Express Tribune reported 80% for Class 10 and 24 News gave the same figure for the Matric examinations, and The News reported 57,952 passes from 72,677 candidates. Dawn reported the same 80% for 2025.
How can I check a particular Abbottabad school's Matric result?
BISE Abbottabad's website offers results by roll number, not by school. Ask the school for its Class 10 entries and passes in the last exam, split by Science and Arts. For an FBISE school, ask for its Federal Board result.
Do Abbottabad Matric schools use BISE Abbottabad or the Federal Board?
Most use BISE Abbottabad, whose list we counted at 2,701 entries across five districts. But FBISE's list includes 25 Abbottabad-district institutions at SSC level, including Army Burn Hall, Army Public, F.G. and several private schools. FBISE SSC is still Matric. Ask each school which board its Class 10 students sit.
Which Abbottabad Matric schools are for boys or girls?
BISE Abbottabad labels each entry Private Male, Private Female, Govt Male or Govt Female, and most private schools have one entry for each. That shows how candidates are registered, not always how classes are taught, and a few labels contradict the school's name. Ask the school.
How much do Matric schools in Abbottabad charge?
SchoolNama holds no fee records for Abbottabad. Army Burn Hall College for Boys publishes Rs 17,838 a month for day scholars in Classes 9 and 10 from 1 July 2026, plus Rs 51,200 admission charges. For other schools, ask for a written schedule.
When is the next BISE Abbottabad Matric exam?
The board's original date sheet for the SSC Annual-II (Class 9 and 10) exam 2026 ran written papers from 7 to 27 October 2026, but on 11 October 2026 BISE Abbottabad issued a press release postponing the SSC Annual-II 2026 exam, so check biseatd.edu.pk for the revised schedule. Candidates must be seated by 8:30am.
