Sindh orders a province-wide enrolment drive as 838 new and rebuilt schools near completion

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on 21 September 2026 directed the School Education Department, district administrations and Education Management Organisations to run a community mobilisation and enrolment campaign so that every school built or rehabilitated under the ADB-supported Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project is full from its first day of opening. A total of 838 schools are involved — 116 new secondary schools and 722 climate-resilient schools under the flood rehabilitation programme — with capacity for about 250,000 children. 257 schools are due to be completed by December 2026, 611 by June 2027 and the rest by the end of 2027. Districts have been told to prepare enrolment plans before the buildings are handed over, so parents in flood-affected and educationally deprived districts should expect local admission outreach ahead of each opening.
