March 2026: Punjab closed all educational institutions from 10 to 31 March

Punjab announced on 9 March 2026 that all educational institutions in the province — schools, colleges and universities — would remain closed from Tuesday 10 March to 31 March 2026 as part of the federal fuel-conservation drive. Examinations were held as scheduled despite the closure, and institutions were permitted to continue teaching online. The province also cut fuel allowances for government vehicles in the same announcement. This is a historical record of the March 2026 closure and is no longer in force. In September 2026 the Punjab education minister explicitly denied that any three-day week or 'smart lockdown' of schools was under consideration.
