KP overhauls its school curriculum for the first time in about 20 years

The KP Elementary and Secondary Education Department has approved major changes to the provincial curriculum from primary to intermediate level, described in reporting as the most substantial reform in roughly two decades. A new curriculum has been approved for Classes 9 to 12 covering eight subjects including English, Urdu, Mathematics, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics and General Science. The number of subjects has been reduced from Class 8 upward, and the number of lessons within subjects cut. New textbooks are expected to follow, but the department has not published a confirmed rollout date, so parents should wait for the official scheme of studies before buying new books.
