The austerity and fuel-conservation measures reintroduced by the federal government on 17 September 2026 cover shops, markets and malls closing by 9pm, marriage halls by 10pm and restaurants by 11pm, a 50 percent cut in fuel for official vehicles for three months, a three-month ban on official foreign travel, and a ban on vehicle purchases. As reported, the round contains no measure for schools: no closure, no reduced week and no shift to online classes. This is the key difference from the March 2026 fuel crisis, when a nationwide two-week school closure was ordered. Treat schools as open on their normal schedule unless your own school tells you otherwise, and be sceptical of closure notices circulating on social media.
